Am i goig crazy - skate boarding / surfing

Postby Johno » Fri Oct 19, 2007 11:28 am

Am 28 and started surfing around a year ago. went round my parents last nite and picked up my old skate board i've not riden since i was 14.

I got funy looks riding it down the street had a lot of fun and in a lot of ways reminde me of surfing.

Any one else ride a skate board when surfing is not an option and do you think it improves your surfing any tips / tricks

I fink am going crazzy!!!!

Used to, but it really starts to hurt once you get past 30. I snowboard a lot now, way less bruises, and that definitely helps with the surfing - I find after a winter of boarding a lot and not surfing much, my cutbacks seem to be better for a while.

I ride my skateboard, when I can find a piece of proper paved road, and I'm well past 30. Think the only thing that it helps with is keeping the docs in business patching me up.

I longboard all the time and really don't fall much. Have definately had some bails that come to mind. Hit it goin 30 one day on rough pavement. That was bad....

Just tore up my shoulders a bit really. And my ass.

hah man in that aspect my life is very paralleled to yours. im 27, started surfing this year and am very into it, skateboarded when i was in early teens to later years. and yea man, i just visited my parents over the weekend and couldn't surf saturday so took out my skateboard (small orange vintage one from the 70's thats always kept in my car) and just skated around the neighborhood. i think it does help with surfing specially with its super loose trucks cause all i can really do with that is sharp back/front side 180 shreds on it and bomb down hills. and yea, people probably think im crazy too.

I used to skateboard as a kid.
Then about 5 years ago I got fed up of walking to work, so I bought an old skool fish shape slalom board with these wicked seismic trucks with springs in them instead of rubber bushes. Found out about a skill called pumping where you use fast alternating turns to propel you along in a straight line. I was around 34/35 then. Got a few odd looks going down the middle of the road.................
Then I moved out here a while back............ and no one skateboarded, and they have these really wide flat smooth walkways all over the place. So I started pumping along on my board, now at least 4 of my friends ride boards everyday..............somedays I even prefer it to getting wet especially if i'm pushed for time, that is until I hit a stone and get the screach / flying / sudden stop thing going on
