SF and JB - saw you both this morning - have to say that paddling out THAT close to the rocks was 'brave' - especially the second time SF did it - WAAAY to close in and any rogue set would have caused some problems!! You were lucky to get away with it at high tide, as you normally get sucked back into the corner!!!

Fair play to both of you for giving it a go though - although I didn't see you catch much once you got out back?????

SF - we did 'meet' on Saturday too - although it wasn't till later that I sussed who you were - if you recall a rather grumpy longboarder having to bail a ride?? I was only grumpy for a second though - especially as you had the good grace to say sorry......

Had another blast this morning - got a couple of decent waves before I had to come away....

For all it's size, it was messy as fook and didn't really have a lot of power until you were more or less taking off on a vertical face - which is only fun as long as you stick the take-off!!

Anyway - glad you both enjoyed yourselves........

You're right about the waves, I was struggling to catch all but the steepest, but I still got a couple of really good rides although nowhere near as many as I would have liked. We did nip into the thatch saturday night, but I only had the vaugest memory of what your pictures actually looked like.

I was planning on going to the East Coast this weekend, decided at the last minute to head to Devon. Glad I did!

Never surfed in Devon I was absolutely amazed at the quality of the breaks and the how much of a friendly atmosphere there seemed to be. I surfed at Puttsborough Saturday and Sunday (Croyde looked a little to heavy and packed)! Totally enjoyed it, seemed to be quite a paddle out but the payoff was worth it.

Only downside...stayed overnight on the Saturday at Putts, copying other people got woken up and charged £15 for overnight parking. Still I'll know to read signs properly next time!

More of a drive, and tiring from where I live but well worth it, will try Saunton next time.

Was also at saunton over the weekend. Sat morning was ok, but swell after that was quite deceptive for anyone on a board under about 8 foot. Looked great but not a lot of power and still very slow, so mostly stuck watching the longboarders further out get wave...after wave...after wave (so so tempted to drop in after a while...) while I either paddled my @rse off to no avail or took off near vertical, just managed to bottom turn only to meet a nice wall of whitewater - and I thought a 6'8'' was going to be perfect damn it...yep a few frustrations...

Anyway still the usual good atmosphere and got a few to keep the soul alive.

And they were still charging entrance fees to the car park right up to 7pm!! What a rip off!!!

It did look clean though - but having already paid for the day at Saunton, there was no way I was paying again for about 30 minutes of daylight at Putts (principle of the matter and all that)

Headed further down the coast this weekend to perranporth and watergate.
Saturday morning was big, 6ft swells 10-12ft on the faces of the set waves.
Made one attempt to paddle out back with Bewilderbeast, got most of the way at watergate but LMFAO when Bewilderbeast took 2 right on the back as he tried to dive under them. Then decided that it wasn't for me either.
How is the back today Gwyn????
Headed up to Harlyn for some dumpy closeouts and once again admired Gwyn for his particular good decision making in taking out a woefully in appropriate board and then for breaking surfing rule no.1 by listening to myself when i called him into a set wave. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Needless to say i don't think he quite made it.
Mind you phil wasn't much better as he was feeling a little worse for wear from the night before.
I of course i surfed like a pro and didn't fall off spectaculary on nearly every wave i went for! Apparently my dismounts were described as classic.
I'll assume this was a compliment Sar? Oh and also worthy of a mention was Mr Joe who seemed to having a great time on his new board.

I've heard and read so much about Croyde, Saunton etc. I think you guys/girls are blessed down there. When I turned up at Saunton on Saturday morning I couldn't believe what a great 'vibe' there was there. Amazing area, great countryside, great food places, great waves!

Roads are mad though, especially the one between croyde and 'Putts'!

In my defence, I just kinda got in the way, didn't drop in. I was paddling OUT, but I did manage kind of an embaressing accidental drop in at one point this weekend.

Had the grace to bail without spoiling the guys ride thankfully though.

Don't kid yourselves about Saunton - the place gets rammed (as we all know) and there are some complete dicks about sometimes (like with most popular breaks) - which brings the worst out of SOME of the locals .....

I have had one local (no names - but suffice to say he's VERY capable and has been in a number of films *cough* *purple longboard* *cough*) aim straight at me when I was paddling out (for no good reason other than he was obviously 'on one'), which he followed up by running over the middle of my mates board and trashing it. On neithr occasion did he even so much as look back to see what damage he had caused - and worst of all, he makes a habit out of such antics ........

I'll keep my eyes open in future trips, maybe because I was at Puttsborough Sat and Sun and there was plenty of room it didn't seem as 'aggro'? Croyde looked rammed when I drove back, took some pictures, there's like 50 people in the same area for 2 waves! Guess that's the reality?

Saturday, late morning, was my best time actually, so if you thought I wasn't getting many rides then you shoulda seen how few I got early sat and sunday. It was tough though, all you long boarders hogging the waves, I'm not bitter or owt, it's a longboarder break, had I been at Croyde I imagine it would've been a different matter. There were some great longboarders out there this weekend, were you one of the amazing ones? What were you riding?

Had a good day on the east coast today, in at South Bay Scarborough from 7am - 9am. Then 'whitewater Bay' (Cayton Bay), for an hour or so of mess! Then a nice 3ft clean 3.5 hours at South Bay to finish the day off. South Bay got very clean and packed but a good atmosphere.

Yeah good too say high. Not the best of conditions early S Bay for me, had a quick look N Bay on way home and jumped in for an hour. 3-4ft round there.

just got back from surfing venice, los angeles. water smelled like crap, literally. it was pretty bad. lot of closeouts too. =(
