The Crappy Jobs Thread.....

Postby libby » Mon Oct 08, 2007 5:31 pm

Ok this ones for anyone who has in the past, or is currently doing a really crappy job! I'm not talking careers here, i'm talking summer jobs etc etc

I'm about to apply for a job stacking shelves at Morrisons to pay off my overdraft and fund some mini adventures while i look for a PhD or save up for a masters :(

My past crappy jobs include being an 'early morning replenisher' for Next in Norwich, putting out the kids accessories starting at 5am and finishing at 9am 5 days a week and then going straight to a full day of lectures at uni! Also been a barmaid and cleaner at the same pub which meant i had to serve the grumpy old men their beer and then clear it up when they pissed it all over the toilet floors :spew:

C'omon guys fess up, what crappy jobs have you had to do in the past just to make ends meet?!

Paper round when I was 13, getting up at 5 am cycling to the paper shop and doing two paper rounds before school for £30 a week.
Next job washing up in a pub, now that was a crap job!!

Certainly don't envy either of your crappy jobs :(

I think the only crappy job i've had has been nightclub work... Always enjoyed normal bar work. The salt places was ok and I did do a 3 year stint in retail all the way up to dept head.. so not so crappy eather...
I guess being a 'stable boy" was kinda crappy by only part of it in the literal sence :p

I think I have liked most of my jobs, even the cleaning job I had when I was 15 - got to just clean and listen to music, in fact I think that was my favorite job....although walking an hour there and back was a bit annoying when it was raining. My day job was horridly stressful a couple of years ago.

Libby - if you can get a night shift job instead of the regular day job in a supermarket they pay well.

Working in a Chinese restaurant was a suck arse one - couldnt tell the dishes apart half the time, burnt myself god knows how many times and had to witness my old maths and science teachers getting leathered and virtually shagging in the dining room!

Also worked in a pet shop when I was at school - £1.50 an hour, working 4pm till 7pm every night and 10am till 4pm on a Saturday and Sunday.

Too many to mention  The ones that stand out -

Working for a promotions company in Durham, dressing up as stuff.

Working in a cabbage factory in Lincolnshire. It stank. 12 hours shifts, either working inside the freezer shovelling ice onto cabbages (shivering all day long and not seeing daylight), or chopping stalks off with a machete type thing  (far too dangerous for me!)

Chambermaiding in a seedy hotel in Scotland. Split shift work didn't suit me either.

Selling balloons on Skegness seafront.

Posting annoying leaflets through everyone's letter box in about a 3mile radius, once a week.

Big hugs to you. Just think of the money you'll be saving up and the satisfaction of paying your overdraft off :)

working in a food fatory in the freezer -25c during the night shift. I think that pretty much tops the crappest job i haver done.

Oh a close second was the same job above but the summer after i was working in the flower mill section lugging bags of flower and pouring mixes. Came out each day looking like a snowman.

I've never had a crappy job.

I've done shelf stacking in supermarkets, which I loved.

I've done labouring on building sites in all sorts of weather, which I loved

I've dug ditches in the depths of a German winter......which I didnt love, but the money was great

I've worked in an office as a post boy which was Ok because I was surrounded by sexy secretaries

But I suppose my worst 'job' was telesales which is really disheartening cos you're trying to swindle people out of their money..............OK..............I have had a crappy job, but it only lasted a couple of days 8)

Had some bad ish ones, but they all had their high points.

Land Surveying, crappy coworkers, crappy work, but great money
Produce in a local supermarket, terrible bosses, cool coworkers, terrible pay
Lifegaurd, only thing that made this a bad job was my supervisor, he was the biggest dick I have ever met.
