Well, I got my first 'real' tube on Saturday.

Newquay, Towan bay 6 ft + and clean.

Dropped in, tucked under the lip, came charging out and got a cheer from 2 guys paddling out.

So stoked I can hardly speak!!

Wooooooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Hey Hey thats wicked! I remeber When I got my first too, was at Ceiraid on a cranking day solid 7ft wedge fireing all day you had to time it so well or you would get shut down.
Ceiraid doesn't like people...

it was good! freezing but so much fun. did 4 hours sat morning, got into wet wetsuit then did another 3 in the ebning as the sun was going down. then got back into my cold wet wetsuit and did 1 1/2 on sun morn and 1/2 on a handboard. it was great. the comp was a bit iffy, the weather was so bad and the waves werent great but i had fun.

i just got my first the sunday before last sunday. 10 ft faces and only had like 2 seconds before the thing smashed me and i ended up getting 6 stitches on my foot. it was worth it.

I've been surfing for 15 years, but I only get to go about 1 or 2 times a year and have to put up with whatever conditions are there on the day.

I had a board that was way too small for me for 7 of these years and it is only since I swapped to a 7'5 mini-mal that my surfing has really improved again!

This was the first day it's been big enough and peeling enough to get a proper tube.

I say proper because I've had plenty where I haven't made it out or I've pulled into the closeout. I count this one as proper 'cos I tucked in, came out and was still riding face!

Respect to you for getting out there in 10ft!

Respect to you guys who got barrelled :D .

Sinister - know what you mean about not declaring it until its a 'proper' barrell. I've been surfing for about 19 yrs and got my first proper barrell at Hossegor in 2002. Like you I've had loads of closeout jobs but it was so nice to get one like in the vids! The thing with getting a barrell is that its really not about surfer ability as much as wether the wave is a barrelling wave or not. Kelly Slater could not get a barrell on a non-barrelling wave!
