thats a good point.

Although my post targeted the guys who are completely decked out in surf branded clothing LOL.

And Hawaii Sucks, I agree sorta.. but sorta don't.. as any brand that sponsors surfers like that is surf related. Not saying fosters is a surf beer.. but you know what I mean.. these "surf brands" that really don't do much for surfing now days besides style.. at least they are sponsoring.

sponsoring doesnt matter, i mean to those people it does, but i dont and im sure the pros dont care whos paying for their surf competiitions, as long as the check clears.

I`m doing the house up, so try to grab a session when ever i can, i get some strange looks from the trendys at the beach when i turn up in my beat up van and looking like a builder 8) , torn track bottoms and a pullover coverd in paint.

I like the style of surf clothes, very comfy. But i like mine with no logo`s, have a thing about advertising :yearght:

I usually turn up at the beach in a shirt and tie, but so do loads of surfers in Aberdeen during the week.

What was the question again?

I mean I wore billabong stuff when I didn't surf..

So there you go - you've done exactly what you're saying others shouldn't do....

To be honest, it doesn't matter what the sport/pastime - on forums like this, there'll be any number of wannabees who use the annonimity of the web to make up Walter Mitty lives for themselves - that's a lot more sad than folk who wear clothes that 'relate' to a sport/pastime they haven't done...........

funny i was just discussing this with my girl. from what i recall surf wear and trend got really popular in the 80's with brands like quiksilver, billabong, gotcha, jimmy z, stussy etc and kinda stayed that way. it just more recently happend with skateboarding in the last decade, which did bother me a bit since i grew up as a skater, but you overlook it i guess only cause it means the guys we looked up to skating/surfing are making it big now.

yeah it was all started by a surfboard shaper, but since then it went down the road of rap and is now worn more by rappers etc than it is surfers......

I might have to know all about suring/skate/snow fashion soon. I've got an interview for a supervisor role at Free Spirit this weekend. I was holding out for something a little better/in a different field but I've got to get out of the temp job I'm doing, I've never done such mind-numbing work. At least as a shop supervisor I'll have a bit of responsibility and a little variation!

I'm not really sure I want to work at Free Spirit, I don't really like it as a shop, but I guess it's better than most alternatices.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to impress 'em at the intervies, think I should swat up on extreme sport fashion before I go?

just look smart, be confident and basically sell yourself, ask a few questions to make you seem interested. I think the best thing you can do is just know as much as you can about Freespirit like how they started and stuff......

sorry if it seems like i am being patronising dude........

No probs, I have a sly feeling it's in the bag, I went in confidently when I applied, asked to speak to the manager and ended up having a cup of tea and a laugh with the assistant manager. I think I sold myself well too. I get the impression that most people who applied just handed their applications in to the floor staff..muppets ;)
