" What is it about surfing .......

Postby CheeZee » Wed Sep 29, 2004 3:49 pm

Hey all " :)

i've been wondering for a while " what is it about surfing " ?...

I have been involved in a hell of a lot of hobbies , sports over the years and i have been wondering what " it is about surfing" ?!

Now i know anyone who loves a sport or hobbie will always say " their people are the nicest , most helpfull etc etc ... but usually it is just because they are biased !

Even related sports i.e snowboarding , skateboarding etc .. i have not found the same kinda ' free thinking characters as surfers ... or the complete equalness ( on the whole ) between guys and gurl surfers .

" So i thought , i'll ask guys ... now please be as trippy spiritual , or earth loving' as you want :D as i really am interested in this .

" is it the close connection with the sea , beings as ( sorry for all devout religions ) that is where we all came from ...
is it the control a surfer has over mother nature ....

" whaddya all think on this " .. if you want , leave this untill you are suitably chilled to give yer best response :D

peace and love y'all ......................................................

Well we never really have control over mother nature as the wave could really kill you at any second it wants. It's more about almost being a free spirit out in the water. You never have to think abou your problems when your out riding a wave and when you with your friends all you can do is have fun.

The feeling you get when you ride down the face of a wave is amazing. You will not get that feeling anywhere else. You could probably say that a good day of surf is the same as a good day of hunting and camping for the ole redneck.

It's spiritle man... spiritle.

" hey J'B :)

" you said it my man , straight off ! .... most guys i talk to about this , the first thing most say is exactly the first thing you said !! .
Like you say as soon as you catch a wave , you have no idea what might happen ..live or die in a second ... amazing ride or amazing wipeout in a second ! .
No other sport can a person be so up close and personal to mother nature and millions of years of evolution ..right under yer feet !

 yeh , think your right ... same as a good day fishing and hunting to an ol'redneck ,, its just summat you gotta do ..its in ya

Take it eeZee J'B ... " watch out for those surfing rednecks  "

What do you mean "almost" religous?
Surfing is the most religous, enjoyable celebration of life I can think of.
Frankly, if most of the worlds religous community spend some time surfing instead of trying to control & manipulate others with dour propaganda, lies, hatred & the like...the world would truely be a beautiful place.

" lol

picture this ....

" a perfect day ... the sun is high , you walk across your favourite beach and then in the distance you see them ... a row of guys lined up for take off .....

" blair's up first ... rides like an old lady but manages to hang on , then cutting accross comes bush' .. trying to steal the best wave , he bails because the pressure is too much ... and stealing into the picture comes the russian president , the vodka kicking hard ..he falls off the back of every wave but happily gives his board to the chechen' leader to try . The Palestinian's on the waters edge that were trying to build a few homes see the fun and shout over to the israel'ees to have a break from smelting gold ..they all run into the sea laughing .
Over by the bar on the beach the african leaders watch on the proccedings untill they combined agree that it might be worth a try .. Lunchtime rolls around , school spills out for break time and as the Indians , koreans and chinese take a break from studying too hard at chemistry they decide it might be nice to stroll accross the beach towards a group of guys playing frisbee ... a group of south american kids who live on the beach ask them if they would like to join in ..they say yes and offer to share their lunch with them as they looked kinda hungry .
Seeing the guys sharing their food , cheezee shouts over from a freshly lit barby ... i gots too much food guys ...anyone wanna sit by my fire and join me "?

All run over , all come outta the sea ... all sit down . Laughter is the only sound , everyone sharing towels food , whatever ... " my lil'boy sits down in amongst all and asks " can we do this again tomorrow "? ... all look at each other with a heartfelt smile ............ " yes " we will do this again tomorrow .

Peace n love all .. a lil' moment from cheeZee

Spot on Brent also!

And cheeZee, you can tell you have a kid, I bet he has a lotta fun at bedtime with all your fairytale stories! Not that i'm saying that last story couldnt happen....
Be good if it did though!

I think surfing does connect a lot of people, and like others have said, its like a religion, a group of believers that are passionate about something they believe in. Surfing is a lot of peoples religion, and I bet those people are effected by it in theyre everyday lives, from the people that live too far inland and only get to surf maybe three times a year, to a local boy (or girl!) that surfs everyday, no matter what the conditions. It all effects us in a different way, and all means something different to everyone! :) Aawww, how beeeaaauutiful! :)

Tell you one politician I would like to take surfing...that's Bill Clinton.
He'd pull the ladies while suiting-up, talkin smooth "I'll save a cigar for you later honey" xxxxx non-stop. He'd send Mr Lid-Rider Tony Blair in waveless. Damm fox-fur lined wuss that he is.
I'm not even going to imagine Mrs Margaret Thatcher sunning herself in a thong on the beach.

" hi chilee :)

yay .. i think we're getting closer to " it " ..... mutual between nature and us ...mutual between people ... mutual ( thinking here)

" a mutual freedom " ... the sea and the sky are the only parts of nature man cannot control .. so it is free ... surfers feel the freedom when they surf ... maybe thats it simple and plain , it is the " highest order of freedom " ...we all have the highest regard for freedom & nature !

" That makes all of us far more suitable to run the world than the losers doing it now " ......

" Yay for us " :D ... Nice one chilee x..." i say watson old chap ,i think weve solved it "

Surfing is " THE HIGHEST ORDER OF FREEDOM " we are all kings and queens of freedom .

for me surfing is about being 100 % free, not just from any problems i wanna get away from or something that pissed me off, but free in the sense you have the whole world in front of you and your really feeling its power, nothings stopping you. I would just like to see a copper telling you to get out of the ocean kos they need to question you or arrest you in connection with som xxxxx, id be like ha yeh sure yup ur gonna have to come in the ocean and get me love to see that, theres just nothing freer for me then surfing, and yeh the feeling wen riding the wave is well there are no waves for it.
