steeper waves: practice makes perfect?

Postby Huntingtonsurf80 » Mon Sep 17, 2007 6:48 am

I've been surfing for almost 2 months now and still have problems surfing waves 4 + feet. At times I take off great and go down face of wave, but more times than not, I get hammered. I guess what I'm trying to ask is in order to surf steeper waves more successfullly, you have to just keep getting hammered until you're used to the waver ight? Can this get dangerous over 4 feet over? Sometimes I feel like I'm never going to be able to surf steeper waves consistently. lol

It takes a while, but yes, practice does make perfect and each time you get nailed it'll teach you not to do it again.

well, its harder to surf bigger waves normally because the speed of the wave (not always true, sometimes it can be 6ft+ junk very slow, and 3ft really fast) but you need to get used to the speed.
i dont really think its dangerous, some will have different opinions, but after like, my 3rd session i went into 6ft waves and although i struggled it was ok, just stick to beach breaks or mellower breaks untill you can comfortably ride these waves
