wetsuit advice_central california

Postby randmichael » Tue Sep 04, 2007 2:17 am

hey everyone-
my question is this. I'll be travelling to pacifica CA in oct. I have a .5 insotherm bodyglove wetsuit (full body) and a 1m sleeveles body glove vest (i'll be wearing underneath). I plan on adding a surf hood (the kind that tucks in) to that layering combo.

do you think I'll be warm enough. I know that most use a one piece 3mm

thanks for your advice!

Its gonna be cold in that case - What you are taking is unlikely to be sufficiant at all :? well i certaintly couldnt take it. The moment the water temp drops below 55 is when im wishing i had a 4/3 fortunatly for me it rarely drops below that down here. Then again im a complete wuss when it comes to the cold

i'm trying to avoid buying an expensive wetsuit for the week i'm there. is there something i can add (i.e layering) to what I've described to keep me warm. (like around $75)

thanks for your willingness to answer my novice questions.

i live in slo county, which is roughly the midpoint between san francisco and los angeles.
everyone here, including myself uses 4/3's most of them have hoods, booties, and gloves.
the water stays in the 50's year round(im pretty sure).

you will probably be miserable :? .

If im not mistaken those .5 full suits are used for underlays in scuba diving or for warmer water activities.

Do yourself a favour and just get a proper wetsuit depending on your funds im sure you can pick something suitable up for under $200

haha... you're joking right?
people in surf shops don't even sell 3/2s!!
i was told to get a 4/3 the first time i went out, 3/2 during the spring and summer ONLY if i paddle a lot.
