What a flat spell looks like on the charts....

How come all your cold fronts move in the wrong direction up there in the northern hemisphere!

If we had lows hovering just to the north on the Aussie east coast, we'd be getting wicked on shore winds, with solid waves... then as the winds drop, the waves continue... hmmm.

Our Cold fronts only move in the wrong direction for some ppl. For a summer its been pretty good East side.
The Atlantic highs have skirted the lows further north pretty quickly, so pretty small swells chest waist high, the odd over head day, and mostly clean.
When we get some proper northerly blow then we're in business, just a bit cold though.

Just to add, normally this time of year the lows are skirting a lot further south, but as the gulf stream is in an an usual position this year the lows pass further north, giving longer period clean swell to our East Coast and by passing the SW.

One more flat weekend, then back to business as usual!!

Dont trust the charts yet though (let alone MSW) - it WILL begin to break down by the end of this week and into the weekend, but the details are impossible to predict yet.

For what its worth, its looking like that damned high will break down with a bit of a bang, bring some windy weather as it goes. So the surf will be back late sunday/monday, but it'll be blown out, and THEN we should get back to usable surf in the south west

But at least its not gonna be flat

Its a nice looking East Coast chart. With the low of the coast of Scandinavia.

Almost...

For the southwest... let me just re-iterate that, for the south west.... the low pressure and associated cold spell is too far east/north to give anything meaningful for the south west (might be a small amount of wrap around swell depending on strength and exact position of the low pressure, but I doubt it'll be much on the south west coast).

Of more interest is that the two lows (one east, one west of the UK) are finally pushing the high pressure away.

This will allow that low near greenland to move towards us and deepen... and then finally we'll get some waves!!!!

...but quite a lot of wind too.

Ok for the South West i'm not convinced that the high is been pushed too far out of the way. Still creating a blocking factor for proper SW groundswell.

As they drop down over the uk in and behind the high there will be messy localised wind slop. In the SW at the end of the weekend and early next week. JMO

It needs to change soon though for my Wales trip last weekend in September.

All i said was that the chart shown was an East Coast chart, meaning it was not ideal for the SW.

the period coupled with wind will fleshin' up all waves on monday. may see whats happening on the south coast of cornwall next week.
