I'm sorry but that's pretty dumb :?

There's no excuse for hiding your keys. If you have non electric keys then that's easy, just put it on a shoe lace like you said .. if you have electric keys then just get one of these - http://www.coastalsurf.co.uk/product_in ... 168ab53f9e. It's brilliant!

Wow....my condolensces. Well, even if you don't get your stuff back perhaps you can look forward to better surf!

I was wondering about that.....I usually don't carry too much, but what would be the best way to carry personal belongings (such as IDs, keys, etc.) when surfing? I'd be worried about the cards falling out of poking me needlessly when in the water.

Lockers, like the one`s at swimming baths. The locker key is on a strap that goes on your wrist. If you loose that, then the organisation who own the rights to the lockers would have a skeleton key for all lockers and may charge for the lost locker key

Regarding the car-key/card problem:

I've been worried about my car key more than anything... I've only got keys with electric components built in, so I can't take it in the water with me. After some searching (and really great posts in https://surfing-waves.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2788), I figured the two main options are:

1. Get a Bubbleloc rashvest - has a waterproof bag strapped to it, which snugs into a comparment on your back (more info: http://www.stikup.co.uk/bubbleloc-rash-vest.htm).

2. Get something like a Keypod - a solid metal case with a padlock that you can lock onto the body of your car. (more info: http://www.extremehorizon.com/acatalog/KeyPod_car_key_safe.html).

Personally I've opted for the Keypod - it arrived yesterday, so once this flat spell is over, I can't wait to try it out and surf without any worries. :) I used to keep the key hidden in my backpack, then put my backpack up on some rocks with a towel so I could keep an eye on it while waiting for waves... not a great idea.

A great place to attach the Keypod is on a suspension spring... can't see the pod there unless you lie on your belly and look under the car. Even so, nobody's going to be able to take it off without some heavy-duty gear.

I've already mentioned it in this thread but this is the best solution for car keys - http://www.coastalsurf.co.uk/product_in ... 168ab53f9e.

You put your key/cards/money in there, strap it around your waist or arm and go surf. Come back and everything is dry.

I've got an electronic key as well, so I had a dup made without the electronics, just to open the door. My Birdwell's are equipped with a nice velcro closure that holds the key very nicely.

Don't take anything but maybe a towel, some wax and maybe a bottle of water or some smokes if you smoke. You don't need anything else. If you want to chill after your session, go to your car and get your chairs, etc. after surfing.
