Resurrect music chat

Let me start by saying I checked out Pandora.com and listened to it daily for about 2 months. I set up nearly 100 stations. I found a new freebie music site on the web about 2 weeks ago that is 10x better than Pandora (IMO) its called Purevolume.com. Its great for discovering new artists, not so great for checking out older more established artists.

OK so here's some new stuff I've been listening to:

Good all-around rock:100100 Juggernaut
Arctic Monkeys
The Classic Crime
Bedlight for Blue Eyes (great lead singer)
Muse (of course)
Jonas sees in Color
The Receiving end of Sirens

Unique/experimental trippy stuff:Sound of Animals Fighting (this band is going to be huge in a "cult" following way...there too bizarre of a sound though to ever have commercial success..maybe in 10 years regular radio will accept them)
Mars Volta

Heavy stuff that is quality metal:Shadows Fall
Still Remains

What I'm sick of:- the 1000's of copycat emo/scream rock/power pop crap thats out there
- the new trendy metal bands that think its hip to switch singing style between the demonic growls and the harmonic sections in every song. Lame, lame lame.
- all of the "smooth operator" John Mayer wanabee singers/acustic guitarists. Stop whispering dudes you ain't gonna pick up chicks being a copycat.

With all that said though I do respect John Mayer and Jack Johnson as songwriters and like their stuff.

Interesting, I will have to check them out.

My favourite of the moment are The Presets, buy, borrow or steal their album. It's the best electro-punk (my classification) out there!

Also quite liking The National, The Twilight Sad, Simian Mobile Disco, Justice and some others!

Maybe I'm just getting old, but every band I see now looks and sounds like My Chemical Romance....

...Who look and sound like Busted. Just when we got rid of those grinning chumps, they create a bunch of clones.

And, please, what is with the lead singer looking up and to the left or right in close ups?????

It's too loud and you can't hear the words.

Pah! I'm off to the potting shed to listen to some Anthrax.

When I was a lad, all this was fields......

Anthrax....they rule! "Indians" off of Among the Living album is one of my favorite thrash metal songs of the 80's. Caught in a Mosh, Got the time...its all good!!!!

By the way that Everclear song that is my favorite surf song...Santa Monica is the title....I couldn't remember it because they never say the title in the lyrics of the song.

For those of you that are into heavier rock...System of a Down has to be one of the top bands of the last 5-10 years. Man they've got the total package (songwriting, tight instrumentals, singing, sound like no one else etc). Singing style in alot of their songs remind me of Jella Beafra from Dead Kenned's fame...kickin' it old school! :D

They're good...no doubt.

Another top band for the list would have to be TooL!

Yeah, Tool has been one of my favorite bands the last 10 years or so. They're songwriting has gone downhill a little on their last couple of albums IMO. Aenima is probably one of my all-time favorite albums.
