laid by a long way, hes pionered (sp) tow in surfing and now hes helping bring stand up paddle surfing back, sure kelly slater has been at the front of high performace surfing and has helped improve the way contests are run, im not saying hes a bad surfing, but laid has done and is doing so much more for the sport, he did the impossible

I'd have to add Mickey Dora to your list. Way back before your time, but definitely one of the greats.

Eddie Aikau was the best waterman of all time, not really surfer.

Probably Kelly Slater because of the innovation he has brought to the sport

why would Laird ever be considered the greatest of all time? He would get blown away in any competition by those dudes, and his style isn't even close to revolutionary like Tom Curran's is....what is the criteria that would give him the honor? He's probably the greatest athlete that surfs, but not greatest surfer by any means. Yeah he played a huge role in tow-ins and stand-up, but that leaves a relatively small impact compared to other's achievements? The progression of surfing has been on the shoulders of Duke, Lopez, Beetleman, TC, Occy, and Slater, and while being a great surfer, Laird is not the first person you think of when you hear greatest surfer of all time. If so, you need to stop watching Riding Giants.
