Hurricane dean and surfing?

Dean isnt looking good for UK swell. Its tracking west away from the Caribbean and towards the gulf of Mexico (Note to Mexicans - Batten down the hatches). For a hurricane swell to benefit the UK, it needs to track further North and East. Or to be further away from the American (north, central or south) mainland.

It's a biggy though. And at least marks the beginning of the season.

Shame it has to completely flatten the caribbean and a fair portion of central america though

yea, doesn't look to promising for the uk at the moment. although it could generate some swell but doesn't look like much at the moment

I've been busy, got a few weeks surfing at the end of june in cornwall. The rest of the summer seems to have been an endless stream of music festivals and weddings.

oh and my company go in trouble for insulting the queen, so i have been keeping my internet presence to a minimum to avoid becoming the fall guy.

Yup. But its an autumn thing. From august to end of october, or so.
Hurricanes in the far west of the atlantic send over large swells with a fantastic period (14s) to the UK.

Last years hurricane season was fantastic. Almost constant, consistant swell.... happy days...

After the hurricane season comes the winter swells so plenty of waves to go round

Hurricane season has the advantage of warm water, long(ish) days, and (probably) the longest periods of the year.

But winter has got waves. Lots of 'em.

don't count on Dean supplying any leftovers but the hurricane season is in high gear this time of year, you'll probably encounter another storm while you're down there.

dynamite, i caught some of this swell on the east coast US today. southern south carolina, not that far from the storm. it was a little bit over chest high and pretty glassy in the morning, very fun.

its a "guilty pleasure" though, because i do feel bad about getting enjoyment out of something that has already killed 3 people. i cant do anything about that though, and like everything else in life i just have to make the best of it. you have to make the best of every situation and thats what im trying to do.

but, if i had the choice of getting 3x overhead waves and 30 people dieing, or chest high and no one dieing, i would always pick the chest high waves.

yes i understand u but he was like "oh poo i dont get to surf for another week or so" maybe it was just me but i thought it was really inconsiderate

haha well no one can control the weather. its unfortunate people died but it wasn't like you were surfing right up the street from them, nor can anyone choose whether we surf, or other people die. the waves were great today; this whole week is suposed to be pumpin.

I know that dean will be done and over with, I just ment from another storm.

Mitur Bin'esderty - So what you are saying is that because I have had friends killed in Afghanistan, I should quit the army? Or people get killed driving, so I should stop driving. People die, it happens. Why give up something you love, because some people thousands of miles away died.

batman, i stare at your avatar for like 10 minutes every time i see it. you're likely to see another storm in about two weeks down there...just be careful, hatteras goes wild with storms, not just the surf but also flooding and wind is insane down there.
