I manage a team of IT engineers/analysts. Pay's not bad, but the only time anyone speaks to you is when something's broken or they need something done RIGHT NOW!!!

So you're not an accountant anymore then? Or do you do both? Did/do you work in practice or industry for accountancy?

Trained in practice about 19 years ago for a few years, went to Uni, got qualified, worked in industry for a bit, bagged a job as a finance director for a big leisure co., then on to being CEO for a different co, working with VC's who invest in the leisure industry, in London and now in NZ.

Might just be about to change jobs again. Got a rather tasty offer from an Aussie Private Equity fund this week, which I'm having a think about.

I would rather work in McDonalds and chew my toenails off than work in practice. It's a waste of time IMO, you get crap money, the work's boring, and the environment is like a big production line.

Take the skills and the qualifications, and make them work for you in the big wide world. You can use it as a stepping stone to some really interesting careers.

That all sounds pretty interesting!

I know what you mean about practice though :( I've been looking for industry jobs but they're hard to come by (for trainees anyway). Should be easier once I've got AAT technician out of the way (a years time) ... I've seen a few asking for AAT techs.

I have a very challenging job   . Im an operator for a cab company (the muppet who gives the jobs out to the drivers). Its hugely boring most of the time, but we do like to have a bit of fun. I'm going over to the mainland with the boss next week for a training thing... should be interesting

Add another bean counter to the list (finance/accountant). Actually I started my career in accounting. My current job is a finance manager for a biotech company that is trying to make vaccines that protect US soldiers from a bioterror attack against Plague, Anthrax, Botulum etc. Its very rewarding and not boring accounting stuff.

i'm a high school teacher but I'm seriously reconsidering my entire career plan right now. I'd rather get paid almost nothing to hand out flyers on waikiki beach and eat food out of garbage cans and just stay here forever than face all that stress and constant work work work :(

i'm loving life right now and it's time to make some changes. i want to be a spirit of the universe floating around from place to place, living simply, not being stressed and enjoying every day :D Just need to figure out how to pay off my debts and then that's it. I quit mainstream life for good!

There are organisations who give advice and contacts for work. Most jobs would be manual, picking, market work, and labouring. a girl friend just came back from a 3 year trip around Israel, Turkey, Grease, Italy ands France. She did fruit picking in Israel, and worked on a farm in Italy.

What i do: .. i own a lil' business which retails Hydroponic & Organic growing products ! ..i can be found at a festival with the green hedge monkeys sharing a cheeky burn.. or equally at a garden show showing lovely old peeps how to grow fruit & veg..and occasionally consult farmers and educational groups on the viability of setting up growing projects ..always found ranting at government groups for Not using Hydroponics to solve some of the third world poverty & starvation issues.

Also .. an Endorsee and letter writer for the LCA (Legalise Cannabis Alliance) ranting about Cannabis legislation, mainly for medical users with serious illnesses.

What i'd like to do: .. host/run a music based youth group or something similiar 8)

Secret work want if i had the kahoonas:... Stand up comedian !!

Another high school teacher here, though currently out of work and looking for a new position before school starts.
Like I have said before, they're looking for teachers in hawaii, especially in the rural areas/other islands.

I'm a postgraduate student until next year, at which point I will have to get a proper job! I also work part time for a travel company to pay the bills.
