how to turtle roll under large powerful white water

Postby Huntingtonsurf80 » Fri Aug 10, 2007 4:34 am

For some reason, with larger more powerful waves I have a problem turtling under whitewater and end up being thashed around to the point where i almost run out of breath. More than likely, I'm probably not performing the correct techique so would someone be so kind as to offer any advice?

yeah bigger more powerful waves will always be harder to turtle under. the main thing is not to wait till the last minute as the wave will catch and push you back while your board is turning over. time it right and make sure you and your board are as flat as possible. i found it also helps if you try bringing your body as close to the board as possible under the water. gl

Does anyone else find they get their feet wrapped up in the leash? ...or is it just me?

hmm i think everyones done that a few times. i tend to get it most when my car key in the leash and it wont sit round my ankle properly so it sticks sideways instead of backwards.
