UK- so when is everyone heading back into the sea?

So in England, what's the chance of getting a decent ish sized wave and some light winds? Is it a bit of a fluke if it happens, or is there always somewhere?

i live in wales, but only sometimes do we get perfect swell with low winds, but there are plenty of sheltered spots if you search. but when perfect swell and no wind comes in every man and their dog will be out.

Start here ( or here -> https://surfing-waves.com/waves/make_waves.htm SP.)

In its very simplest form (from a UK Devon/Cornwall/South wales perspective):

You want a deep depression (lots of isobars) in the middle of the atlantic. this creates waves and sends them towards us, but the distance means the waves have time to clean up and the winds arent right on top of us.

ideally as well as this low out in the atlantic, you'd want a high pressure (very few isobars) over the UK so there is little wind at the break. Remember that wind more or less follows the isobars in an anti-clockwise direction (clockwise in the southern hemisphere) and the more isobars, the more wind.

Thats the basics, and after that its knowing swell direction, local knowledge, tides etc etc and a hundred minor details.

Aslong as your not on the East Coast. There are other places to surf in the UK.

Deep depression off the Scandinavian coastline does it for us.

I shouldn't say anything really, keep the myth that there only be surf in the SW.

East Coast is rubbish and never works. Not worth learning to surf there. Cold horrid.

Hmmm, I knew MSW was over-egging how good this weekend would be.... but its gone from 'not as good as MSW is saying' to 'really nothing special, but at least a wave' and now its edging towards 'truly disgusting'

Looking like a good session to be had late saturday... but its not going to last long, and the weather will be foul.

Undecided about whether or not to travel
