HELP needed!!!

Postby spongebob992 » Fri Aug 17, 2007 2:56 pm

I'm 17 and I used to have surf lessons about 2 years ago now. On the lessons I got really good and could do turns etc but due to personal circumstances I couldn't continue with them. A year later I brough my first board a Bic 7"6 as I was advised cos they were good beginner boards. Problem is I really haven't been able to settle with it, for a start it's just too heavy for me and I can't even fit it under my arm!! I really want to get a shortboard. I know they are hard beginner boards but surely if I persevere hard enough I will eventually get the hang of it??? I just really want to get into surfing and I feel this board is letting me progress and believe me I have been patient!!!

Any help whatsoever is MUCH appreciated
Cheers

You can try a shortboard. The first board i had was a 6'2. And in about a month or so i was already standing up.

it is possible, i learnt on a shortboard, but it would have been easier on a minimal i know there are many good minimals out there, that are faster and more manouverable than BIC's but you should get a big shortboard if thats what you want to learn on

Don't do it. most of the guys i see learning on shortboards look like total kooks. not everyone, but they are just not the best boards to learn on. youll have less problems poping up down the road, im talking a year after you learn. youll most likely have better form and manuevring if you start on a funboard.

Can you get there on a short board yes. Will it be a lot more work yes. My opinion is you will not make it. If carying a board for you that is heavy is too much work the frustration of trying to learn on a short board will be far greater.

Good luck to you and I hope you stick with it.

Thanks for all your help guys :-D
Do you reckon a 6"0 shortboard by NSP will be any good? It says it's good for a first shortboard??
