What do you do for a living?

Corporate finance scum - horrendous job - but very lucrative. But not for too much longer . . .

Don't let me put you off being an accountant though - it's a good enough trade, indoor work and no heavy lifting. Its just I'm looking for something new after 20 years.

accountancy is a good line of work as far as I can see.....even those people who became self employed so that they could enjoy as much time surfing as possible need accountants!! get your own firm and you can work whenever you wish ? always good to know how to 'work the system too'

I run a team in a large multinational bank trading in securities - yes....thats it! I make money for rich people. dont really enjoy it but Im good at it, it pays the bills and I have an exit plan.

I also run a youth centre (the exit plan)- this I love, and im good at it!!

Trained in practice about 19 years ago for a few years, went to Uni, got qualified, worked in industry for a bit, bagged a job as a finance director for a big leisure co., then on to being CEO for a different co, working with VC's who invest in the leisure industry, in London and now in NZ.

Might just be about to change jobs again. Got a rather tasty offer from an Aussie Private Equity fund this week, which I'm having a think about.

I would rather work in McDonalds and chew my toenails off than work in practice. It's a waste of time IMO, you get crap money, the work's boring, and the environment is like a big production line.

Take the skills and the qualifications, and make them work for you in the big wide world. You can use it as a stepping stone to some really interesting careers.

I should have listened to my parents, and went to college. Their dreams were for me to be an attorney. They had everything set for me. As long as I kept my grades up they were going to pay for it all. I woodn't even had to work part time.
