I always see fishermen catch there fish and just throw them on shore to die. Why cant they just throw them back in the water? The other day me and my friend just got out of the water and saw a fisher catch a baby lemon shark and leave it in the sand to die. So we took it in the ocean and pushed it around to get water in its gills, but it died.

So i just thought i would mention that.

most of the time once a fish has been caught if it was thrown back it wouldnt survive anyway. thats why when we have rules and regulations to say what size fish you cant bring back with you you have to throw babys back and know they will die anyway. but i agree just leaving them on the sand is wrong but if there weren't any rules just because they may have been a few cm shy of legal size then they would have been put to use rather than just wasted.

Even if it's PROBABLY going to die, a least stick it back in the water so it at least has a chance!

I don't really fish because I've got very little control over what I catch. If I could guarantee that I'd catch one decent size edible fish I'd do it. At least with hunting I only shoot at something I want to eat.

if its caught on rod and line it more than likely would survive if it was put back, unless it swallowed the hook or was caught from a boat at depth then you risk damaging there gal bladders

rules only apply to comerical fisherman sadly theres no legal limit for recreational fisherman. at least in the UK

We've got laws over here regarding the size of fish/shell fish you can catch and take home. There are sizing charts at all popular fishing areas, and on all piers etc...

Most of the 'foreigners' dont seem to take any notice of it though, but the fisheries people do spot checks and prosecute people as and when...

..nine times out of ten the fish will die once returned but at least its 'home' when it does , but to be fair to most fisherman .. size rules and reg's mean that if they do do anything with it, then they get busted by some 'red tape' jive ..so what do you do ? ..i think return it and let nature do what it does best ... " give life or take it "

i dun know.. if you throw it back in the water and it dies soon after...then the carcass is going to be floating around and if it brushes up against someone .. and they see it.. then they would FREAK!.. .. once i was swimming and somone next to me saw a fish... and he freaked out and drank water and almost drowned..
