theres just something about surfing in cold water. i think i'd get sick of the nice warm water. that's what showers and baths are for.

Where is the hot hot water!!1

Postby dusty23 » Sun Sep 19, 2004 1:03 pm

Senegal and madagascar have some real mean heated water,in madagascar you can almost drink the water because of the lack of salt in it..but the water is infested with sharks, idid spearfishing when i lived their for a while and all you need do is look under water and can see mr sharky shining in the distance under the clear water, but i think he looks better in the pot than out...Senegal is where its at for not too much sharks,and are small ones as their are no main reefs for the sharks to feed off an so on...good waves sometimes 8+and real powerful!!!waves always warm and consistant!!

IT also depends on air temp. I wouldnt want to surf in 90 degree water if im in 100 degree air. But i would like 90 degree water if im in like 40 degree.

...i go with what papawoolacombe posted right at the top of this Poll' ...

water quality drops drastically over 72 degrees ..the amount of microbe nastys that are in warm water , are enough to make a hippo sick !

" Water quality is my thing baby " .... i own a Hydroponic store :wink:

diving and snorkeling in tropical water is completley diffrent, you aren't exerting yourself as much, like if your surfing you over heat too fast, but if your diving you get cold in water like 85 degrees, so it makes a big diffrence on physical activity.

The water surface is warmer than under it so its cooler when diving anyway.

I have only been in really warm water once when off Brunei in the South China Sea.It was really f warm and there were no waves but I swam about for a bit in boardies obviously and remember thinking at the time it was too warm to do exercise in. Imagine doing 10 lengths swimming in a pool as hot as a juccuzi, f that! I have no idea what the actual water temp was tho.

Rough guide:-
85f = 29c
65f = 18c

Just been surfing today in winter suit 5mm, no boots etc, water temp is 15-16c. Plenty warm enough for 3hr sesh with a bit of sitting around but below 10c is not fun.
65f is just into shorty weather for me. Never surfed in water above 21c so don't know what it would be like although I reckon wind chill would play a part in keeping you cool maybe.
Good question tho!

Hey Broosta :)

good post , good bits of info , no ones brought up the body tiring issues of swimming in really warm water ( not left the uk so's ive not yet had the pleasure of surfing a warm climate ! ) .

Same as yourself , im still jumping in wearing my shorty ... last week i kinda hit the limit . 3 hours solid in the water resulting in completely numb feet but that was due to wind chill not the water ... reckon i'll have one more week in my shorty but know that i'll be cut down to an hour and half maybe two max' before im needing help off the beach ...again 'lol' :wink:

'lol' i tried on an armoured plated' suit for the winter but man i dont know ... how can i put this ... " well , its damn hard trying to do much of anything when your main concern is that every... " ahem " lower organ is being pushed through ya rib cage :lol: :shock: :lol: ... 5mm+ is damn near fetish wear i reckon " !!!
