il start, im 15 and surf at bournemouth boscombe area, being a grom here aint to bad, i do get picked on but mainly by the older groms. i longboard aswell so i aint the most loved person in the water, but im friends with most of the locals so its not to bad, and i do ride a 6'6" egg so its all good.

same as you guys, 15. surf mostly east coast - around pease area. nae hassle up here. How often you guys surf?

twice weekly if possible, swell dependent, if its good i surf more, but if its shite i surf less...although probs will start going about 4 times a week, now my dads getting into it, although maybe i'll be moving to the east coast on my own, leaving him to surf my local, but i'll be in walking distance to the beach up there (if i go) so that will be cool, how about you?

not too often unfortunately. Living in central scotland its not as if i can wake up and paddle out but at least i have a wave an hour or two away. Anyway, yearly in scotland , i would say 5-8 times a year and including holidays abroad i would say maybe about 20 times altogether (obviously dependant). Its not a lot but its a passion even if i dont get to do it often.

thing is though, here in wales, there are more men who break the surfing etiquette than groms, and the groms mostly do wrong, because all the waves that 'are theirs' get takes (by men breaking the etiquette!!) although i agree that some groms can break the rules!! but its the same as everyone!

Yup, it's almost a shame, but survival of the fittest applies to surfing as to most other aspects of modern life!

Groms are always good value to take on a trip somewhere. Plenty of fun to be had stitching them up, waxing their boards with soap, pot noodles in the wetsuit boots etc etc.

I once got my mates younger brother to sit in the boot of the car, on top of all the wet wetsuits, all the way from Watergate Bay to Brighton, about 5 hours, because I wanted to have to whole back seat to go to sleep

They have, I moved to New Zealand, and they have all grown up now, and they keep coming to stay (for several months usually).

But being a 15 year old grom is all about taking a bit of crap, it's how you get lifts to the beach, taken on roadies, and bought beer. Wish I could be one again.........

I always thought Groms were a little younger than 15...pre-pubecent surfers. In my book I think 13 is the Grom cutoff...then your just a teenage punk surfer (if you cause trouble in the water or have attitude problems). If your a teenager and follow proper ettiquette and respect for everyone else in the water, then your just a "surfer". Young. but a legit "surfer".

I agree - I have no problem with the little monkeys, Most of em are just out having a good time like the rest of us. However The next 15 year punk that drops in on me is going to seriously regret it
