Barbados or Bali?

Postby Stevieboy » Mon Jul 09, 2007 2:32 pm

Hi everyone,

First off just wanna say to DBBB, Thaya and all the others who answered my last post.....thanks for your advice, it was spot on!!! Right here goes...

I recently learned to surf over the May bank holiday down in Cornwall and am planning to visit again in September for a refresher (yes i loved it :D ). After that im planning a 'proper' surfing holiday in October/November and was hoping someone could advise me on the following...

I'm considering either Barbados or Bali so if anyone has been to either of these destinations i'd appreciate any advice you could give. The reason I've chosen these two locations is because id really like to surf without a wetsuit.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions.

Stevieboy.

Only been to Barbados not Bali, but the counrty was lovely, the people were really friendly and there are surf schools out there. I cant compare it to Bali but I loved Barbados.

Which one would be cheaper? Bali, I would guess.

Never been to either, but heard lots of good things about Bali. Don't know how beginner friendly it is though.

Maybe do some research on the web and check out some other places too, so you can compare prices, beginner wave availability, weather, etc.
Like Puerto Rico, Morocco, Costa Rica, Tahiti, Fiji, etc
Lots of cool places to go check out.

I know this probably didn't help :D

Jethrodog, We send tons of people to Barbados, however I do not like to send begginers. There are really no GREAT waves to practice and perfect your basic surfing skills. You should definatly look at Bali, there are plenty of surf camps there that can point you in the right direction of some warm fun waves. The consistancy of clean surf in Indo is just unreal compared to Barbados. Barbados relies on windswell for the most part , however they do get some amazing swell and soupbowls has tha ability to be an amazing wave, it is not as geared for beginners. Have fun either location. However Kitesurfer also pointed out an a great choice too for beginners.

I wonder

Bali is 99% reef. It's not super begginer friendly, but I'm sure the surf schools out there would take you to a relatively safe break. Having said that, the only beach break I know it Kuta Beach, which is jam packed full of idiots that want to run you over!

My friend just came back from barbados and he said he learned to surf there. , so there must be a few waves.

Ok so my suggestions... Costa Rica, Australia or Bali.
