car crash

Postby thaya » Thu Jul 12, 2007 5:42 pm

This morning I had my very first car crash  . Im glad to say it wasn't my fault. The guy behind wasn't paying attention to the traffic jam ahead and drove straight into the back of me at about 50mph. He swerved at the last minute and caught the back right side of my car, sending it into a terrifying spin. It was a miracle I didn't hit another car. I can't believe how scary it was.

I hit my head on the side of the window, and I've got whiplash, but I don't think it's really bad. What I don't understand is the fact that this happened at about 7am this morning, and I'm still crying and shaking now (although not quite as bad) and it's 6.30pm. I keep telling myself to pull myself together, but I can't :? I got back from the hospital about 2ish, took some tranquilisers that I'd been given and had a nap but the whole time I kept re-living the accident. Even though I'm ok, I feel like an emotional wreck.

I'm sure plenty of people on here have probably been in car crashes, so I was wondering whether this reaction is normal? The doctor told me I was in shock, but I expected it would go within an hour or two. I'm really surprised I still feel like this. Maybe I should have a nice hot drink and go back to sleep???????????

I think it is just your in your head. Like i find anytime I have crashed my bike, for about an hour or so afterwards, I feel a little weird(aside from the normal giant cuts on my legs/arms). Like you just keep replaying it in your head, so you just cant get over it.

I say have a nice sleep tonight, wake up tommorow, and get on with your day. Car accidents happen, it wasnt your fault, get back in your car, and go to work(or where ever).

BTW- How is your car?

I've had a couple of good ones before, both times it really shook me up for a few days. It's the thought that you're totally screwed, and there's nothing you can do about it, along with the horrible noise of glass and metal smashing, and the way the whole thing seems to happen in slow motion.

It just takes a bit of time to get over it. Nothing to worry about, just a normal reaction to a big shock.

sorry to hear about that Thaya. Hope you're ok now?! I have been in a few accidents (usually not me driving) the first one that was....I went into the back of someone at about 40mph and did the same as the guy did to you....tried to swerve out of the ways until I realised I was driving into oncoming traffic :tut: (numbnut  ) and steered back into the back of the guys car...I remember making that decision and it wasnt pleasant!

Fortunately, my mind has a tendancy to block these kind of things out but if I could remember it fully I would imagine I would be freaked out just like you are. Its a shock and stuff but (and this sounds really patronising I know  ) try and shake it off mate - get on with life - if you still have your car and its wrecked....clear everything out and get rid - dont stand and stare and what has happened and relive the moment etc.

oh - if you do get the Passat....you may feel a little more protected in a bigger car?

And he's only talking about snowboarding....:D

I've had a few rear enders too, not quite that hard, it does shake you a bit but give it a few days/week and you'll be ok.

Been in 4 car accidents one of which was a total car wreck. (the car did many turns tumbling down the hill it was totally surreal and me and my buddy were laughing hysterically during it - just hysteria  ) I found the solution was to grab some smokes and have as many as you can until you get a headrush you quickly forget about the accident then - may feel a little bit ill though:wink:

Just remember people can die from shock

I'm still feeling a bit weird about it, just shakey, but mentally much better. The sun is shining. The annoying seagulls don't seem as annoying, the birds are tweeting, the day is beautiful, I feel very calm and mellow. Just had strawberries for breakfast. They tasted scrumptious and I savoured every moment.

Some people came over last night so I decided to join them and had quite a few drinks till 7am this morning. It took my mind off things, apart from the fact that they kept talking about car crashes  I met a guy who's friends with a guy who rides one of those hydrofoil things with laird hamilton. How weird is that. He's going to introduce me to the local surf crew too :D

Now I have a hangover but I feel quite happy! in fact, I'm going to put on my bikini and step across to the beach to do a spot of sunbathing. I can't even describe how gorgeous it is outside. Hope everyone else is having lovely weather too.
