Take Off epoxy or hand shaped Glass?

Postby Jonah_Fro » Tue Jul 10, 2007 8:48 am

Hi, I've been surfing seriously for about 6 months now. Started way back when I was 18, but had no cash, so now I'm 35 and feel I can justify spending on a board as I know I'm gonna get a lot more use out of it.

Initially i was thinking 7'10 - 8' mini mal until i tried a mate's 9'6. Just loved the stability and ease of riding it. So I know I want a longboard.

I'm now in two minds between a 9'1 Epoxy Take Off longboard and a truly sweet hand shaped glass one. The price difference is around £200, which isn't a big problem, I was just after some opinions.

I'll probably get down to north Devon every couple of weeks throughout the year, mainly in summer cos the family can enjoy the beach, but plan to surf all year round if I can.

I'm 13 stone and 5'10" by the way.

Cheers

Talk to Kitesurfer. He is a master Shaper! :D

Well....he or any of the other shapers on the forum can help you with differences, what you should be looking for, and they could probably even shape one for you if you should so desire.

(do i get my commision now, Kitey?)

Thanks for the advice. I spotted a new 9'1" Bilbo on Ebay and it looks like a bargain.

What do you guys think?

If you buy a 'custom' board off the shelf, you may as well have bought the epoxy job - because neither has been made to suit you.

Speak to one of the many shapers who will tailor-make YOUR board to suit YOU - at a price that is normally a lot cheaper than the shop bought ones!!

Lazicka Surf Design (Paul AKA 'Clicky') made my first custom board, or you could try Marsh at Swampy Boards.

If you need any info, drop me a PM
