A day of weird packing...

Postby drowningbitbybit » Thu Jul 12, 2007 10:14 am

This evening, Im flying to Sydney. Partly for a job interview, partly for some surfing. So right now Im packing, and its making a very odd mix...

Suit, Wetsuit.
Tie, Leash.
Shirt, Boardshorts.
Shoes, Flip flops.
Laptop, Surfboard.
CV, Fins.
Powerpoint presentation, wax.
Memory key, Fin key.

And damn you Qantas for your 20 kilo weight limit...

I LIVE in shorts and flipflops... even in the UK winter, so the predicted 13 degrees with sunshine will be fine 8)

As for the interview... it will all be a lot simpler if I dont get it and then I can just get on with moving to sydney for the job that Ive already been offered
(Im not good at decisions...)

Have a good one matey, im very jealous as always, although i'm thinking of saving up some money and heading in that direction at some point next year to do some volunteer work with whales before starting back at uni (if i get a PhD) so make a mental note to leave some hobbit sized floor space!

ive got a job in orange call center, but after my first day of team buliding i was ready to stab the women in the throat

fist we were given crayons and asked to draw our life and share it with the others (there now stuck above my desk)

then when ever she refured to the customers she refered to them as raving fans, as in we need to make them raving fans.

the guide to what we are going to learn says stuff like

Tuesday 3pm cooking class with jamie oliver teaches you the pukka in puk codes

wendsday 2pm - survival show your skills that you have learned for the survial of your tribe

but to top it all off she gave us photos of people in the company then made us go off and find them.

ive never felt so imbaressed let alone pissed off all i could do was think of nasty ways of torturing her

and ive got 3 weeks of it :bang: :bang:

lmao.. my buddy works for orange but he gets left alone as he's one of their high ranking communication nerds (no offence T') ..but he's often told me stories of what the new sales peeps have to go through ..and bro .. you have my sincere empathy ..cause it aint over for ya yet

CheeZee's Bolloxford dictionary definition of Team building:

.. embarrass the staff into doing their job properly or they get more Team building excercises!!

Man that sounds a nightmare!

I'll have to be nice next time I'm complaining to orange about the fact my phone goes dead with a full signal and I get network busy at 5am!

How is the surf in India?

 ...at Phil.
It was worth buying some hotel internet time just for that

So, been to wollongong for the interview.... er... weird place. Lovely beaches and breaks, lovely mountains, lovely university.... but thats it, nothing else. At all. Ive been eating bread rolls and mars bars for days 'cos there's nowhere to buy food once the sun goes down (at 5.30pm...)

But the interview went okay. And had a couple of good surfs - small but nice and clean, and even though the weather is freezing, the water is nice and warm.

British airways destroyed my board though, the b@stards. Huge ding in it (photos to follow, when Im back). A temporary patch is keeping it together though for now.

And now Ive just arrived in cronulla (south sydney) and the apartment is rather xxxxx :D 8)

Surf has picked right up, and looking a bit scary
Bit messy, not sure if its do-able yet but we'll see.

Right, Im off to get some proper food...
