Mate got knocked out at Saunton today

Postby MrJoe » Sun Jul 01, 2007 4:28 pm

Went surfing today (Sunday) at Saunton with a mate and a few of his mates, and one of them got run over by someone else, knocking him out for a good few seconds, it was all pretty scarey hearing the crack of his head on the board as this guy ran over him, then watching him not come up for a good few seconds.

When he did surface, he was all over the place; at first I thought he was having a fit in the water. He was stood up for abit, still quite out of it, and only really came around as we were taking him to shore.

It certainly wasn't the drivers fault, he tried his best to avoid him, but I guess these things happen; he seemed pretty shook up about it all too.

Anyone else ever have something like that happen to them?

Only my own board Joe, but i try to stay away from busy spots. Some cuts to my hands and bumps on the head. Some days it all slots together, others it just falls apart and at the end of the session i feel like i`ve done 12 rounds with mike tyson.

A couple of months ago, I was paddling back out after catching a wave, not paying much attention  turned to see a mate on his body board flying towards me, pushed my board out the way so i didnt spike him with the nose and he hit me on the ear and perforated my ear drum! It hurt and made me quite dizzy, couldnt go in the water for a while after that, waiting for it to heal. Was surfing Bmouth pier on Friday, again paddling back out after a wave, but paying attention this time  and a lad was flying towards me still led down on his surfboard, again was no chance I was getting out of the way and he had no control so bailed my board and pushed it out the way and ducked under as quick as poss, felt his board go across my arse (luckily not the fins or I wouldnt have been able to sit down for a while) if I hadnt reacted pretty quick I would have had it straight in the face!!

I wanted too; but my mate and his friends weren't too bothered :( I looked about the carpark to see if I could recognise anyone, or any SW Meet flyers; I even had a scan for drowningbitbybit's big purple van; but no luck! :(

I presumed you'd gone to Puts / Croyde or something...

Dislocated my shoulder once, getting slammed into a rock wall. Made for a pretty painful one armed paddle in.

Broke my nose and snapped a finger too, which still doesn't work very well. Been over the falls, connecting nuts to rail on an overhead wave, which really hurt, but thankfully, never knocked myself out. I do that snowboarding at least once a year though.

I got collected by a longboard on a point at Noosa. I was paddling out about 3-4 feet behind a longboarder. A wave was coming at us, I saw him set up to duck dive it and then I put my attention on the wave. Duck dived it and as a I came back up SMACK right on me bonce! The fin came down on top of me head like a bloody axe!
I was gonna carry on surfing but a very attractive girl spotted that I was bleeding (I hadn't noticed) and pointed it out to me! She then rinsed me head with some sea water to prove it and sure enough there's big old clouds of claret in the water! I then looked at my previously white rashy and it was now a tie dye effect pinky-red!
Its a pretty sharky area so I figured I'd best get out!! 30 minute walk back to the road looking like a scene from a horror film!!!
4 stitches in me head from that bad boy!

Got run over by Essex on sat, got a pair of fin scars in my nice new board, and some nutter ran me over today good and proper, straight across arm & board (no damage to either) but todays was ENTIRELY my fault.

P.s Thaya, I'd say sorry, but i DID miss. I didn't actually hit you.

you've got nothing to apologise for! It was a friendly near-miss :D

I wasn't referring to you in this post, rather some bloke at Harlyn bay a couple of months ago who left me with a black eye...

A few weeks ago, I was surfing Croyde with a mate. I was paddling back out and the light was fading. He was about 15 feet out from where I was and went for a nice low tide peak. I screamed at him as I knew he was going to turn right and come straight towards me. I screamed again, but he clearly hadn't heard me. I ducked about 5 feet away from him and he went straight over me. He hit my board buut fortunately I was in one piece. Why is it always your mate that takes you out????!!!!

I got hit by a goat boater a couple of years ago down at Sennen. I got my board out of the way and stayed still so that he could avoid me but (despite having blooming paddles!) he had no control over his...vessel and went straight into my head. Suffice to say it hurt, I didn't get knocked out but was damn dizzy. The other thing was the kayaker was been filmed by a big fancy camera at the time so somewhere on the web there is probably a vid of some poor lad been whacked by a crap goat boater.

...mumble mumble xxxxx mumble mumble...

On saturday at Saunton, there was some kook muppet surfing a 20ft longboard... without a leash

The conditions were far too big/messy for that, and he was nowhere near good enough to consider surfing without a leash :yearght:

As his board came barreling towards me, deepest duck dive Ive ever done...

But oh how we laughed when we saw the same muppet lose his board on sunday at Putts, and it got washed allllllll the way in with him left way outside sans board.

personally i go where ever there isn't alot of guys around here, or I try to avoid getting dropped in on because people around here have no respect for eachother (like a bunch of freaking rabid monkeys out in the break). Got hit by a longboarders fin on the back and it hurt like hell but that'a about it for injuries, I have ran over an old lady on my Wave Rebel bodyboard though, and also came close to carving over some tourist at the beach doing laps in the break, pulled my rail tight though and pulled a tight turn across the beach where I hit a sandbar with my board and went flying onto the beach. Fortunately my board was fine :D .
