I managed it once, with a business owned by a london company, got the offer on a better package than I was on in Brighton, mid 50's, not quite London rates, but pretty good. It was based just outside of Newquay. I was lucky, because they were looking for some specific experience, which I had, and they couldn't find it locally. They obviously thought they would need to tempt me to the West Country. Yeah right!!

Unfortunately the wife was about to have a baby, and wasn't keen on moving right then, the house prices scared the crap out of me in Cornwall, and it would have been a nightmare getting another job there on the same money, so I canned it, and decided to move to NZ instead. Which has worked out really well.

Got chatting to a guy called Pete in the line up this morning, who used to own a surf shop nearby. I said that the waves were powerful today and yesterday. Mistake. He Laughed.

He had just come back from Bali.

Had a great time on sunday afternoon. My local spot in mid-wales was absolutely heaving, most packed I've ever seen it, with over 20 surfers vying for the sweet spot. But there was a good vibe, with most of the people quite friendly and relaxed, along with decent shoulder high waves. Unfortunately, so many surfers meant I had a seriously low ride count, but it was still a great day. Longest sesh I've had in a long time, almost 4 hours of near-constant paddling; when I got out I instantly got cramp in my arms and legs and couldn't move it at all
Then, left home at 3.30 this morning and headed south to Manobier with a mate. Not as big as the forecast had made out, but got a couple of short rides. Besides, there's no better way to start the day :D Now trying desperately not to fall asleep at work... Only another 2 hours and 10 minutes to go..... :bang:

Ermm... Latest surf... Today. Probably the best surf I've had all weekend, for about an hour! Much more realistic than my suicide attempts yesterday, and cleaner that sat.

No wet shots, but here's one for monday.

Anglesey this morning. Complete dog xxxxx!!

At this point I would normally add 'But at least it's nice to get wet', but I can't even bring myself to do that.

Had a BEAUTIFUL sesion this morning. Got in the sea for about 4.10am, at secret point break #1. Twas amazing! Never seen it so big there! Great waves, never caught so many in one sesion! It died off by about 7.30, which was a good job, because my shoulders were on fire from all the paddling! Probably the best sesion this year for me! Totally stoked! :D :D On a high, I love you all!

My latest surf: Friday, Tonel, Portugal.

My first and only surf so far here in Portugal due to this effing cold!

It was really odd! I´ve only ever surfed Sennen and Tynemouth before, both very similar breaks and it is so different here! Tonel is a beach break which apparently surfs better at high tide, but the waves rise up and break so suddenly. The water is so shallow too, so I just kept paddling for waves and upon popping up I was getting dumped into the sand! I think it has something to do with the conditions that day though. Letś hope my next surf is more successful!

Oh, a lot of localism here too apparently...which is nice  . I didn´t even go near any of the other surfers and I got dirty looks. God knows what would happen were I to drop in on anyone!

Cayton last night 3-4ft clea with a light cross shore turned almost glassy at aound nine as the wind dropped right off. Had it for three and a half hours till dark.

Was reliably informed, by the missus, that the wind on the local news would be light firdt thing. Kipped in the van for a dawny and woke to a horrid choppy mess so drove home.

At least last night was more than worth it. 8)

I don't drive anywhere i know its going to be shite, i knew last night was going to be going off, i hoped the winds would stay as forecast, they didn't so this am was shite so got up checked the surf/wind realised there were no options so came home.
Twas still 2-3ft foot first thing but not worth the effort.
