my new job

Postby thaya » Tue Jun 26, 2007 5:38 pm

I went in to my new job today for an induction type thing. I've come away feeling very overwhelmed by the amount of work I'm gonna have to do next year. I've got to teach totally different stuff  but I reckon once it's done, it'll be a breeze the next year.

I've got an INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARD :woot: which is like winning the lottery (in teaching terms!) No more blackboard and chalk or ordinary whiteboard and pens or overhead projector. What a luxury!

they confirmed I have to teach art, which is a bit of a joke cuz I was actually kicked out of my art class aged 13 for being so cr@p  !!!!!!!!!
I reckon I'll stick to fingerpainting... hope the rev will give me tips!

but, the best bit is I get FREE FOOD :woot: twice a day (cuz I have to teach from 8am-6pm  ) but it's all you can eat and the choice is fantastic - all healthy and delicious. I reckon I'll save a fortune on food bills each week :D

I'm excited but terrified! I've got to start planning some lessons and making resources. Better get on with it...

we have one here at work......i hate to look at it, because it is used ONLY as a normal white board/white background for a projector.....I can get over how they dont utilize it properly.

I actually saw some young male members of staff take lots way for later!!! It's too good to be true! I just can't believe I can eat whatever I like and not pay for it! What a great perk of the job :D

I was up till 1am last night planning out my schemes of work. It's gonna be non stop till I go on holiday now... but at least I've got Hawaii to look forward to.

ok, what is an interactive white board?
Is it one that prints out, or does it link to your computer?

it's all linked to your computer, video, dvd, stereo... so not only can you project anything on to the screen (which means most of my lessons will be on powerpoint rather than printing sheets out or writing the same thing 10 times) you can write on your work on the board, change things on it, get kids to come up and fill stuff in, play (educational) games, link it to the internet to show clips from the news or videos etc. it's gonna change my teaching forever and I can't wait. I used one for a class I used to have in an IT room each week 5 years ago and it was amazing. I'm realoy surprised that the last school I taught at didn't have any. I can't wait to get going. I've got sooooooooo many great ideas :D

Like starting a school surfing team. With the art class you can start to design surfboards. :)

Congrats and have fun.
