Can someone help me find a board?

Postby jonathanderick » Wed Jun 27, 2007 2:42 am

Hey everyone! I'm buying my first board as a beginner surfer. I've read many threads and little guides online that advise on certain boards and heights, most commonly being a 7'4" minimal/funboard for beginners. Yet, I'm going to surf with a friend everyday (as soon as I get a board) so I'd like to start with something I'd be able to keep, for at least the duration of the summer, that'll challenge me throughout.

My friend has a 6'7" squash tail and I'd like to start on a similar board (we're both 5'8"). I was wondering if anyone could help me scour craigslist.com for a good 6'7" or so board that I could buy. I have $200 in my pocket and probably $25 more in the next week. Thanks to anyone that can help!

mhm...it takes a longer time than the summer to get good on a shortboard mate, it takes a good couple of months go get good on a longboard, and thats without the tricks, but it is possible, and i learnt on a shortboard, can't help you with getting the board, but make sure its wide and thick aswell as the length. (say something around, 6'8, 19½ by 2½). might be a better idea to rent a shorter board after some lessons? depends on how you want to do it

I was going to take lessons especially since there is someone to critique my technique or lack thereof, but I've got work and school all summer. Because of this, I'll be surfing right when the beach opens at 5 A.M. until 8 A.M. when I have to get to my first class.

I don't mind if my learning process is slowed by starting on a shortboard because I'll definitely stick to learning it no matter what.
