Surfing on a skimboard, not so nice....need a different one

hey guys, im currently a skimmer, and i surf also, but on my skimboard...odd, but true. Its so damn hard to surf on a skimboard, as they are shorter, thinner, and all around skinnier than a surfboard. Im looking to buy a boar also, and have recieved a offer to sell for like 200-250us$.

a) Do you think its worth it
b) Do you think i can skip the funboard stage of learning? ive tried my friends 6'7 and i got up second time, but this board is a 6'2 Kechele

I think you will be alright with this board but I am sure you will have a better time if you get a mini mal as many of the members here will suggest. Another crucial factor comes into play is where are you surfing, a bigger board will be better if the swells are forever knee high in your area, you will need to pop up a lot faster in a shorter board.

Yeah the price is worth it but if it was me............I would not touch it if I could not see it for that price. Besides that I have no idea what your goals are in surfing. What I do know your talking about the east coast of the US where the waves are generally small most of the year. Do you want a board that you can ride almost year around or those 12 days a year when it is pumping. If the latter then that size is good to go if you want to go on a smaller board and not a long board I may look at a fish or a fun board. They are still smaller but you will have many more days that you can ride them.If you want to learn to surf easier go for either a longboard or a minimal. JMHO

Edited: Check out this link. He looks like he makes some sweet boards. It also says if you have any questions to call him. Tell him what you want and what you want to do. Also ask him if the board would be good fow a newbie.

as long as the waves are waist high a short board should be fine.
but i prefer always having a longboard in my arsenal as i can always find something to surf with that board.

that board looks good to go though.

Yeah that was my thought too. It sounds to good to be true. I worry about the dreaded crack that you can't see.
