Local Shaper (Allison)

Postby justloafing » Sun Jun 24, 2007 11:05 am

There is a local shaper here in Wilmington, NC named Will Allison. He has been shaping boards since 1976 and from what I have read he puts out about 300 boards a year.. I went and really looked hard at them in a local surf shop yesterday. The boards are a perfect shape I believe for the conditions around here. I was wondering if any of you all have heard of Allison Surboards?

Also I found out he lives less than 2 miles from me where he shapes his boards. I was wondering if you think it would be appropriate for me to call him and ask about his boards and maybe have him custom shape a board for me. Yep I am a newbie to surfing, kind of. I would actually like a board that is about 9'6". If there is such a thing, a board that I can use right away but also a board that I can grow in to as far as experience level. I don't want a board that is just for a novice that I am not going to use in a year or two when I get better. What do you guys think?

Thanks

Yes, thats exactly what you should do, call him and have a chat, worst he can say is sorry I'm busy, buy one from a shop. But I bet he'll give you the time for a chat and sugest/shape a board for you.

congraduations :D By supporting your local shaper, you've made a choice that 90% of beginners don't, as most are buying up the cheap NSP's or Bics. thats 100 millions good karma points right there alone!

Great, Thanks. I read your responses and just called. His mom is in hospice right now and he is there with her and I will get a call back from him in a day or two. I had a great talk with his wife and she told me he just loves to chat with new customers as well as old customers. I am really looking forward to talking with him. :D
