I totally agree with the above post.

As far as her reason, its really none of our business.

Do we care? Of course!

I just hope, and pray its not for health reasons.

none of our buisness?

this reminds me of that scene in breakfast club. "Im not the one who dumped out my purse and invited everyone into my problems"

if she didnt want all of her online buddies asking her why then making assumptions and accusations when she didnt respond, she would not have made the post. by making the post without giving and explanation, she gave people the right to poke and prode.

If she didn't want people asking, she wouldn't have worded it like that.

Why on earth are you giving up surfing? Come on Jo, spit it out! If it's personal just say so, but if it aint, what bought this on?

Hi everyone :D no, I wasnt doing it for the attention (cheers HawaiiSucks  :yearght: )

Its just that I've never really been that good at it, and at the moment I'm so busy with horsey things and STILL cant get a job, that I'm selling my kit to afford to live for the next few weeks.

Basically I just dont have the time or the drive to do it anymore, which is a shame but seeing as tho showjumping is what i feel i was REALLY born to do, am going to strive to get really good at that instead :D

...aww babe .. c'mon .. everyone here knows that i suck at surfing with a capital S-U-C-K ! ..but it was my love for the ocean, beaches, sea life that spawned my interest and because of that ..i will never give myself a hard time, even if i only ever get to ride a board back to shore on my knees... im still a surfer in my soul babe

Dont sell your board darhlin .. you'll regret it and you knows you will , even if it ends up against a wall as a reminder for life .. dont sell it :surfing:

Don't give up now! If you keep it up, make that effort, you'll look back in a few years time and laugh at the very idea of actually giving up surfing! Nothing worthwhile in life is easily attained. If push comes to shove, sell the horse!! I repeat, don't give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, if you do decide to give up, I might be interested in your board, could do with a new toy 8)

p.s ..im hearing you on the 'devoted pony thang' and the lack of cash but dont bail completely on the surfy lifestyle ..you may want to come back to it at some point in the future

Best of luck on the showjumping ..i knowz its your passion and i know you'll succeed at whatever level if your gonna give it a mahoosive push

if she thinks horses or whatever is more fun, then thats cool. surfing is not the best thing in the world. its all subjective. some people dont seem to realize that.

huh?? is a surfer someone who surfs, or someone who buys boardshorts? could you say there are people who make art, and there are artists? then what the hell is an artist?

are you trying to suggest that you have to follow some kind of philosophy or have a certain attitude to be a surfer?

I must admit if I lived miles from decent surf I would call it a day. But you can always come back to it no matter what age ...well within reason ...

Good luck

Good point Hawaii. Surfing IS the best thing in the world to me, which makes it easy to forget at times that for some people it isn't. Totally respect whatever decision you make Jo :D Viva La Vie baby!!

i wouldnt surf if i didnt live where its convenient, but i still consider myself a surfer. its not my top priority, so what? im more realistic. dont listen to these fools "jo", just do what makes you happy. if its not worth driving 3 hours and wasting all that money on gas to find the surf blown out and junk, then dont do it.

" a person that surfs :

a person of any ability ( i have met a few quality surfers that surf daily but do not regard themselves as a'surfer' by their own personal definition).. who drags a board into the ocean without any relevant knowledge, passion or care for what is around them, under them or the people/life-forms associated with the ocean.. on any level.

" A surfer :

a person of any ability who drags a board into the ocean with some/much relevant knowledge, passion and care for what is around them, under them.. and feels a personal identity bond with any person/life-forms associated with the ocean..on many levels, and has no regard or judgement for the next surfers ability other than the ability to be there! .

The above is my quick smart-ass definition of a person who merely surfs and someone who regards themselves as a surfer.

We all know there is a personal and spiritual scale to which any of the above applies.. and the only way (not that i bother..im too busy being a surfer  ).. i would be able to tell the difference between the two .. would be the smile on the persons face or the lack of it when entering or leaving the water/ beach  8)
