Normal Steiny is the kiwi version of wifebeater. The new Steiny Pure, cold filtered is pretty good. I went to a launch night for it a couple of weeks ago, got pissed, annoyed some of the smaller all blacks a lot, and didn't feel too rough the next day. It was free beer, and I got started at 4pm, so it should have hurt.

Here's a Speights Ad - classic stuff

Err hold on a bleedin minute.
Beer and lager are two different things
you can't compare Stella to Hobgoblin.

My fav is a real ale, although having said that I've just downed a very large bottle of Dorada which is my local canarian lager, so i guess it doesn't really matter so long as it gives you that nice fuzzy buzz. Mmmmm lovely.

I feel really sleepy now.

if im on a heavy night out i stick to carling, dont seem to get as bad hangovers from that.

if im just having a few i normaly go for kronenburg, grolsh, or becks

used to just drink wifebeater but it has so many chemicals in it, plus the hangovers the next day just wernt worth it

I've got about 6 bottles of Fullers Vintage Ale in the cellar - 3 from the 2005 vintage and 3 from 2006. Gonna let them age for a few years. This is one of the best beers ever!!!
I am also pretty keen on Belgian Trappiste ales - a drop of Orval or a nice Chimay. Lovely!
In terms of the more mass produced beers I'd say Stella is a nice tasting beer, Kronenbourg is good, Becks is shite, Carling is one of the few lagers that can be drunk warm'ish and so is ideal of surf trips!!!
Coopers is one of the best Aussie beers but normally drink XXXX Bitter in Qld!

surf patrol wrote:IMHO you are not missing much from Australian beers. I drink imported beer here. It seems to be getting harder to find though as more and more of them seem to be being brewed under licence and it just aint the same. Becks, Heiniken, Stella etc all brewed here now.

I quite liked Steinlarger but man did it give me a headache in the morning if I had a few. Didnt mind Speights but have to agree that it was a little like weak tasting bitter.

ah man i went camping out at the beach last september and i brought a 24 pack..well two 12packs of steinlager and ya worst headache ever the next morning when i woke up around 6am to go surf.. the cure i found? drink more steinlagers!
