Now to introduce my problem ive been surfing for a while now but i never was able to turn ... its probably because when i go down the line im thinking to much about just making sure im not gonna fall but then again i dont really know how to turn, to turn would u use ur weight to each rail in order to turn or would u move one of ur feet in a direction with the board? do u guys get what im saying? if u do anyhelp would be appreciated if u dont ask anything u dont understand ill try my best to clear things up.. thank you all very much...

If you can go down the line, then you can obviously 'turn'.

Are you shortboarding or longboarding?? And do you actually mean 'turn' or slash/cutbacks??

Get some speed up, stick the board on a rail, transfer your weight to your back foot as you initiate the turn, and most importantly, look at where you want to go. Then as you come out of the turn, transition your weight back evenly to both feet. Bend your legs too. and keep your centre of gravity low.

It goes for everything really. Snaps are more aggressive, and you need to push the board around with your feet, basically giving it heaps, and getting your legs and body weight right behind it.

Cutties are all about positioning on the wave, get high, lay it over, look at where you want to go, and push through the turn nice and smoothly. Use your arms for balance, and twist your body as you get into the cutback. Just straighten up as you come out of the cutback, and push your board around to be pointing back down the line. It should be a nice smooth motion.

The cutback is probably one of the things you want to work out first, because that way you can keep in the pocket of the wave, which is where all the energy is sitting. That gives you speed to make turns, ponce about on the nose etc etc. Without speed you'll just catch a rail and fall off. If the waves are right, just practice take off, bottom turn, turn off the top, straight into a cutback, recover in the pocket and do it all again.
