question about the ocean....

Postby Sar » Fri Jun 01, 2007 3:54 pm

Hi guys,

Is there a point in the world where 2 oceans meet but you can see a clear line because of the salt leve/currents etc? One is light blue and one dark.

I remember Timmy Mallet on Wackaday talking about it but cant remember where it is....am I making this up?

or how about this one ! or two !!

Image

This is Skagen Odde, the tiny sandbank which makes up the northern tip of Denmark. On the left side comes the waves of the Northern Sea, from the right the calmer waves of the kattegat. But when they meet at the odde, they make up streams that makes it dangerous to get into the water. "Bathing is deadly dangerous", says the signs on the sandy beach.

lol.. now theres gonna be a hell of a rip there huh ?!

Cape Reinga- the northern most tip of North Island, New Zealand where the Tasman meets the Pacific, Tasman is much lighter in colour, its craaaaaazy, loads of weird currents and waves going in all different directions out at see. The day me and Brent were there was an amazing ground swell rolling in -beautiful! I'll post some piccies later :D

The thing I was thinking you ment was, I think it is called, a Heliocline(sp). Its where fresh water and salt water mix, and there is a line in the water where it is different. There are caves in mexico you can scuba dive that are like that.

  I though so to  . I felt the need to mention timmy mallet just to make everyone knew I was serious about this!

I cant remember where it was at all and now that Luke has mentioned he remembers it and the other half has just come home to say he remembers the exact same thing and that he once watched a whole documenty about the thing I am determined to find out. I have pulled out all my reference type books (all 2 of them!!) and done countless google searches but the answer still evades me. The whole thing started with a conversation about the Rio Negro - it was probably that all along.

Hopefully after a few beers I'll be able to let this one go :? (if anyone does know the answer please do tell tho)

Would still like to see those pics Libs! :D

Oh for the days when you could take a large sponge hammer and slam kids around the head with it ! you could always tell if Timmy was having a bad day or the kids were gobshites, cause the kids would get a hell of a hammering, and you could see the bitter conviction in Timmys eyes as he hit em' full force ..
