Double overhead waves

Postby Guest » Sat Jun 02, 2007 4:48 pm

I've been surfing for about 3 years. I can do basic turns and a few tricks. The onlything is, when it gets to overhead waves I get really scared. Monday is going to be double overhead, which is insane. I always can make the paddleout, but my only fear is a big set wave landing on me, and making me get thrown into the rocks. Should I give it a shot and cut school to go?

Being scared is good - but only you can know when something is safe......

If in doubt, DON'T

..If in doubt, Don't go out. (these signs are on most beaches in hawaii now, and I think thats a pretty good saying!)

a little scared is good gets the adrenaline flowing and makes you know your pushing your limits slightly. if you're getting scared on overhead waves i wouldnt reccommend trying double overhead. its a whole new kettle of fish. you only have to look at how the numbers of people in lineups thin out as the surf starts to get big to see that.

i remember i went out surfing a place iv never surfed and it was probably only alittle over head high, i got about back and was bricking it, i went for a few waves, but i wasnt fully commited, finaly i thoush flesh it, went for a wave it must of been 1.5 times over head, i dropped in and i was still bricking it, i was shooting down the like with so much speed, i kicked off the wave and started to paddle back out and i had the biggest smile on my face, it was such a great feeling.

honistly if you feel that you have enough skill to surf it and you think you can make the drop it give it ago, but if you think its to steep and you think youll get smashed go to school, also if theres no one els out their definalty dont go out if your in dout. have fun what ever you do, good luck

I would try to get comfortable in overhead waves before try 2xOH...

I'm waiting for the afternoon to go...let the size drop down a little...hopefully the winds stay offshore.

What beach do you go to? I've never seen double overhead on LI. Biggest was during the Bunger Surf Contest when there was a storm in Florida.
