Finology is not my speciality, so I recommend you ask this question to the experts on this longboarders forum.

Ahhh, what memories... My first board was a 9'6" DW Eliminator back in 1967. Bought it used for $10!

A 10 foot log is going to be a bit difficult to turn, regardless.

Before you buy a new fin, you can loosen and tighten it's action up by simply sliding the current fin forward or backward. I'd recommend starting by moving it forward 1/8 or at most 1/4 inch. Surf a few waves, then move it backwards the same amount and see which suits you.

A hatchet should be a good fin for longboarding. But you can always try a cutout, which usually gives more side-to-side flexibility.

I have not read it yet but the new Longboard magazine looks to have a great article on fins and set ups.
