HAHAHAHAHA!!! You guys make me laugh! Call me Gramps, I'm 51, been surfing since 1967 and plan on surfing til I die. Age is immaterial as long as you aren't so old and crotchety your bones and muscles don't work any longer!

I've spent most of my life surfing, the rest I've wasted...

In my humble eyes its a good day if there is surf and you get time to go out!!! ...was blown out by the wind earlier this week and is now flat, not a ripple in sight :(

I've been dry for over a week.

No waves, Daylight saving has changed so midweek surfing is soon to be a thing of the past, and it'll be getting cold in a month too, then the snowboard season starts,.

Facing a severe case of no surfing for a while:(

May get a day or two in Devon in July when I go to the UK tho :D

You are mourning the thought of no surfing for a while, I have a huge grin on my face with the thought of summer and surf....if waves allow down here... :D

I first tried surfing at the ripe old age of 37 - wished I'd done it 20 years ago!!

I was lucky that I managed to stand up (and ride into the beach, like you do on the first one) my very first wave - been hooked ever since.......

Never too old..........

I was wondering the same thing. I'll be 30 in july and looking to relocate to a beach and learn to surf. I've always been fascinated by the sport and have wanted to get into it but there are unfortunately no waves in Pittsburgh, PA. I am determined to make it happen, I'm just glad there are forums like these where experienced surfers can offer tips and encouragement.

Right now my main options are Virginia Beach and Wilmington NC. I'm a registered nurse and can pretty much transfer anywhere after I have a year in at the hospital I'm at now. I've already interviewed at 2 hospitals in VA Beach and I have a few friends who live there so that would prolly be my top choice but we'll see. I'm sure it will be very fun learning I just wish I could be out there now.

Hey brother,
I just noticed that your location is Wilmington. Off topic but do you know anything about New Hanover Health Network?

I do not know if that is with the Hospital or not. PM me and let me know what you want to know and I do know a person that can probably fill in the blanks for you.

If you do choose Wilmington let me know and I will help you out ie. finding a place to live. Ohh and if you need to come for a visit I do have an extra room for you to stay in but leave a day in your trip to go surfing.

I don't think that you are ever too old ! Just get out there and have fun. I, at the grand old age of almost 35, am seriously thinking about competing again next year, its been 12 years since my last comp (and that was short board) and now I really fancy getting on the longboard circuit, so I don't think you are ever too old !!

Look at it this way - a guy I work with is 58, he had a heart scare (he smoked too much), the Doctor said "exercise or die" and he went - "Right". He ran a marathon last year. From never running before - he is a legend. Anyone can go for it.
