surfing in tahiti... for beginners also

Postby hanna1981 » Thu May 24, 2007 9:33 am

As you can probably notice I've been writing here to find the perfect spot for me and my sister to go and surf/chill in some exotic place.
Now I think we are starting to know what we want but things are still a bit open.
So I need your help again :0)

So here it comes:

If we travel to tahiti, what would be the best place to fly to (we are flying from helsinki, finland)... I mean we want to find a place where beginners could find waves also.
And because my sister dosn't have her own board we would have to rent one. And as I told you earlier we want to include as much of everything in our one month holiday... surfing, chilling, beach bars, scuba... etc. We just wanna feel that we are in an other world you know ;) But I guess being in Tahiti feels like that no matter where you travel in there.

But we would be sooo gratefull if we could get info about the acommondation also, and then that other stuff. Our acomm. and travelling budjet is quite good so we don't have to count every little penny... but we are NOT loaded eather... so something in between... (in between of what.. :) Ok, now i'm just being weird.

But this is all for now! And as I said before, many many good things will happen to you when you share your nollage to two girls who respect nature, other surfers, secret spots (we will find them some day in our future... good thing is there is many years of surfing ahead of us), and most of all , to two girls who loves enjoying life :0)

Hi there!

I'm afraid I can't help you too much with tips on accommodation, flights ect but what I would say is that Tahiti is not the place to go as novice surfers. I am under the impression that the majority (if not all) the breaks there are reef and mostly very demanding!

Have you considered going to Mexico or maybe Costa Rica? You will definitely find some beach breaks to suit your skill levels out there.

When are you thinking of travelling?

... for the info! I kind of noticet that Tahiti might not be the place after all while surfing the net. And as it happens we got tickets to Bali... so That's where we are going after all! In June... for three weeks.

I know Bali is now quite crowded place... but actually it dosn't matter... as long as we can go surfing and see when the pros do it also. That is there are any pros ;)

But if you have any good tips about Bali I would be more than happy to "listen" !

Have a look around Kuta beach.

Buy the way, which part of Finland are you from? I was in Tampere last year and had a great time!

yeah, kuta beach is one of the first targets 'cause we live just near the beach. but luckily we have enough time to find (hopefully) some places wich are not that known... i'll cross my fingers.

We're from Helsinki... Tampere is a nice city altough I haven't spend that much time there. What were you doing in T? business or holiday :) You should've visited Helsinki also 'cause this a nice place!

I was in Tampere for a sporting competition in which I sucked!

I had a pretty busy schedule so I didn't really get much chance to tour around or see the sights. Love to go back one day for more of a holiday at some point. When I can't be near the ocean my favourite places to be are by lakes or amongst the trees and you've certainly got your far share of those!

Hope you have a great trip and find what your looking for in bali!

For me the best thing in Finland is the fact that when the Summer comes you can just go to sommer cottages and enjoy your time with your friends...
drinkinking, sauna, wakeboarding, swimming etc.
But hopefully you'll have the chance to spend a month in hear in the future...it's worth it. Summer in Bali is almost as good ;0)

I'm sure Finland must of entirley sold out of bikinis that month! I really didn't know where to look!!

It's definetely on my list of places to go back to one day.

i was going to say if youre going to chopes, you either have a death wish if youre a novice, well thats pretty much it. only experts do chopes, even some psycho bodyboarders have done it, nut seriously it aint for the faint hearted, they say there 500 tonnes of water over you in every barrel.

erm i think maybe 500 tonnes is a bit exessive as that would be 500 cubic metres of water which is a lot. but maybe that much on the bigger days i dunno
