board advice

Postby TofinoGirl » Sun Sep 05, 2004 7:45 am

Hey

I'm looking to make the transition from a longboard to a short'er'board. I have been surfing awhile now, but still consider myself a beginner.
I have rented 8&9 foot softops, a 7'10, which I could manage easily, and a 7'4, which wasn't too bad either.

Today I went looking for my FIRST board, and was looking at a 6'9. It was almost 3"thick, and 20 3/4" wide.
I am a girl, 5'3, and 115lbs.

Will I be able to ride this thing?...and will I be able to duck dive it?

Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks!

Ride it yes, Duck dive it... might be hard. I would suggest going for 6'5-6'7 board... Also if you want you could get a fish shortboard with catches waves like a longboard but still has good performance. If you do go for a fish get it in the 6'2 range. Also what waves sizes are you riding?

The waves are usually around 3-5 ft when I am out there. Can hold up to 8 ft. or bigger in winter, (Westcoast of Canada).
I was hoping to be able to duck dive because its usually pretty messy and can be choppy.

Thanks for the response.
