Long wheelbase nissan patrol... without doubt.

You can fit n 8'7"ft board inside with ease, and it's under lock and key (unlike on roof racks), plus it'll go anywhere... over sand, through mud, and to some of the most spectacular and remote breaks unaccessible to other cars.

I had an '03 Jeep Sahara before the Ridgeline, loved it, went anywhere, fun to drive, great with the roof off, but the gas mileage, ouch! Brutal. I would typically fill up 3 times for every time the wife filled up her VW jetta diesel. How is yours for mileage, WooD? Did I just have a lemon?

Your comparing apples and oranges here. A jetta desiel will get about 1000-1200km per tank. Your Jeep(all jeeps have bad milage), is a big heavy hog of a vehicle, so it has a bigger engine, so it used more fuel to go the same distance......Sorry, should say it did, now that you dont have it.

An old Volvo station wagon-the 940 or 740 style-is good. With the seats folded down my 7'3" board fits inside and you can also sleep in there, not that I need to since I live 5 miles from the beach...

I have subaru forester, not a nutter turbo one tho.

Drives like a car, goes offroad, can fit a 9'2" board inside, reasonably ecconomical, job done.

haha! I should mention that isn't my actual car, but mine's identical except for the shade of grey. (2" lift with bilstein shocks, 33" mud terrains, extractors, Limited slip diffs)

I'd definately recommend the BFG Muddies... They're rubbish on road, but that's the point.

I've had em cake up with mud a few times, but the only tires that beat em offroad are Simex (I think they're Centipedes) that aren't legal for road use in australia.

The only problem is the price, so I got a second set of retreaded tires with the BFG mud terrain tread pattern, and these are identical offroad but have softer tread and don't last as long..

Yeah, they are a bit pricey, but unfortunately retreads are illegal here....

I might go with the BFG AT's since I do a lot of highway.
