Southwest Florida spots?

Postby Ch-Ch-Chase » Sat Apr 28, 2007 8:55 am

Hey! I just moved to Florida recently from Rhode Island, and just being near the ocean has got me to being on the water again even though I haven't surfed since I was 12, five years ago. Born and raised in a beach :D terrible five years upstate on snow lol.

But anyway, I've no clue where to catch some waves around here. I live in Fort Myers.. pratically at Fort Myers beach (walking distance).. but, this beach is FLAT. Like.. as far as the eye can see! I'm not sure if this is how Florida beaches are or if it's just the season?

Does anyone know of a good spot for a semi-begginer around here? or any other place that's not ridicolously far to drive?

Ummm, it's the Gulf Coast, has to be some type of major Swell maker to get Waves around here. You are in a prime location to get some of the better Swells on this portion of the Gulf though. I live North of you in Pinellas, and travel your way often, in order to get to the deeper off shore waters. Up here in Pinellas we have very shallow waters for a long ways out. Just do some research on the area and you'll figure it out. Also , check out gulfsurfforum.com , and gulfster.com,if you have not allready been there. Great sites, I am on gulf surf forum all the time. Only NO ONE will give you exact spots on that site. it is actualy a rule of the site to not name spots. But after getting to know some of us, we usualy open up through PM's. But the "secret" spots will allways remain protected.

Hey, fellow Fort Myers resident here. Yea it's pretty flat most of the time. Last time I went out was a stormy day, that was good. But yea we need some sort of weather changes for stuff to happen or you can get a board to ride the slush which occurs pretty often.

How you like Fort Myers so far? I'm here attending Florida Gulf Coast University. Transferred here from University of North Florida and my hometown of Jacksonville.

Hey, I like it man! Hell of a weather change from upstate hah. I dropped out of Boston's Berklee Music College and came down here to take a year off or so.. I'm liking it, Fort Myers beach seems like an awesome place to chill (and.. NOT surf apparently hah.)

Yea it has great night life. Summer gets even better.

My motto is:

If noone around is playing sports, nothing good on TV, and girlfriend is working - THEN IT'S TIME TO GET SOME FRIENDS OVER AND GET WASTED!

I personally live by that.
