Flippin' eck, that went quick

Except for the flights, they didnt
And the jetlag - I didnt realise jetlag was so bad, I always thought it was just being tired, not being completely unable to walk cos the floor wont stay straight :?

But once the jetlag had gone, we had a great trip although not much chance for surfing. Had a session at manly on a rubbish battered shortboard, which wasnt all that great, and felt like weeping when it turned glassy offshore later in the day when I had no access to a board

Still, it was great to get out in the water in boardshorts :D 8)

The swell wasnt very big.... here's a small day when I was at Bondi -
Image

But on the same day just round the corner (Coogee, I think) it was stacking up to what we'd have called a classic day in the UK. Different league....

And the reason for going - the new job - was pretty good too, so as long as I can some stuff sorted out (visas, healthcare, taxes, reluctant girlfriend etc etc) I should be over there later this year. :D

As a friend of mine (who moved from the UK) said while I was over there "Surfing before work - makes you feel like a genius" 8)

Hey paul, I may steal your "Thinking of writing a book called 'Wobblers Guide to the Universe'" plan - right now I can wobble just by standing up, or even sitting down, or doing anything in fact. JetLag is weird!! :spew:

Next time, hopefully, I'll be going one way and only having to put up with it once....

hey hey! nice to see you had a good time and everything and it look like its working out and Im very very jelous!!

just curious....what did you think of the city?

Did you get to see much and get a feel of the place. My work have offices out ther but my boyfriend wasnt that keen on the place. It was a bit more 'cityish' (yes I am fully aware that it is a stupid thing to say but its true) than I expected too. Apparently it was the coldest november in 100 years when we were there tho  which didnt help :x
I guess living in/near London you're used to the city thing but what did you think???? heluva lot nice than london imo

Another effect of jetlag is that its 5am and Ive been awake for hours...

Sar wrote:just curious....what did you think of the city?

Loved it. But, yes, very definitely a big city.
Due to the last minute nature of the trip, we had an apartment in the city (rather than near the beach) which was a good place to get to know sydney from. Noisy, bustling, on the go 24/7 - all good if thats what you're expecting. Probably a bit hard to spot the differences between places though as cities are inevitably similar. Much friendlier than london though, and more laid back.

Biggest difference was the traffic lights.... how fleshin' long waiting for the little green man???!!?? :bang:

But we met up with some friends-of-friends in the suburbs, which were beautiful and really quiet - but only a few miles from the city centre. Thats kinda what Im looking for - somewhere with the benefits of the city, but can be escaped easily. I kept having to remind myself that I was only a short ferry ride from the city...

Image

That's a five minute boat ride from the business district (on the one rainy day we had) :D

So tis all good 8)

Hey, cheez, thanks for the tea - luke warm hotel tea and airplane tea just doesnt do it for me

Not sure yet.
Need to start getting some stuff organised, but a surf is always nice

Looking a bit more likely than it did an hour ago

I was waiting for a decision on a different job in the UK before deciding for sure. I didnt expect to get it, and I didnt - which is a relief as it makes the decision a lot easier.

So is it confirmed then? You'll be leaving the warm (ahem  ) English weather and heading to the bottom of the world for fair climate and unlimited surfing?

Oh, also bring some rain with you, if you move here. We are in a drought, and I hear England gets more than it's fair share.

Almost.... still a couple of potential 'issues' to resolve, but pretty certain now I think. The phrase "unlimited surfing" may just swing it

As for rain - we saw plenty of rain in the last two days we were there. A flippin' monsoon!! We got soaked - four times! You'd think a pair of poms would have an umbrella!
