its Muppet time...

Postby sharkbait » Wed Apr 25, 2007 1:37 am

hey all. just been out on my brand new 6'10. not even a sniff of wax on when i bought. thats how new it was. so i waxed it. as you do. as it turned out, not enough wax.

3mtr waves at ocean reef beach (west coast aus) and as soon as i laid on the board to paddle out i realised 'bum spuds, not enough wax' cos i slipped straight off.. trying to maintain my coolness. cos it was busy. i struggled through the waves. i couldn't even sit on it once through the break!.. it kept slipping between my legs. so i waded for a bit and headed in on the first wave. only to get lifted for take off and slid right off..

felt such a muppet.

so a lesson for the likes of me, WAX YOUR BOARD PROPER.

3 meter waves, that's about 9 1/2 feet. I thought you were a beginner?

I have had that happen. Though it is normaly cus the wax has frozen....I guese thats what you get for going out the day that there is no ice left...

I find that when i think i am good, i put some more one, then I am good.

heh that's a major pain... no wax...

I went out with my bro on a board I hadn't used in a while, so instead of waxing it I just ran a wax comb over it and thought "should be ok"...

I soon found out that the aussie sun ruins wax if it melts, coz all the oil in the wax separates out, so even though there was wax, it was hard and not sticky...

problem is when there was water on the deck my feet just slid straight off.

from now on, old wax gets a quick run with fresh wax, no matter how good it looks.
