when would you go out?

Postby tree_hugger » Wed Jun 23, 2004 12:36 pm

would you rather go out in a 2 ft day with a bunch of mates or a 6 ft day with a bunch of jerks that keep on dropping in?

I'm a beginner anyway, i apreciate small waves...
And since i am a beginner i HATE the crowd, cause i dont have that much control and all, so since i dont want to get in the way of others i can't enjoy the surf when crowded.

If you enjoy surfing you would quite happily go out in both.
I do.

2ft days are mellow you can surf for hours without feeling tired, but they are usually packed with tourists.

6ft days slightly more adrenaline kicking around, quieter as beginners cant get out back but more knackering

Both worth a trip to the beach

2 ft for sure. i surfed big (for me) waves at saunton last year (you know at high tide early morning scarry) and didnt catch a thing so it was pointless, still given the chance id like to see if i could do it now.

blatently a 2ft day...yeah sure its two foot, but it is so much fun when all of your mates are down at the same time, the sun is shining and you're all having a laugh. Thats what surfings all about, any time when its 6ft in England, its normally winter time and there are plenty of 6ft days to surf, but its becoming more of a rare occurance having all ur mates down at one time!!!

If go out in 6ft and try your best, even if you're not too good, you may catch only one or two waves in the whole session. But the deal is, next time after that you go out in 2ft....you'll totally charge. You'll pull into waves quicker & you'll be all over them like a rash. Why ? because the 6ft day was good paddle training & overall practice.
Always better to go out - than not.

when would you hgo out

Postby lokl'din » Tue Aug 24, 2004 1:31 pm

I'm from the Gold Coast,so it's always crowded, but it's rarely 6 foot.So I'd have to say 6 foot and full off jerks and do my best tofocus on the waves and try and create a better vibe by chating, encouragment and hoot good waves and good surfing.Anyway, sometimes drop-ins are fun especially when youve got a long wall and open face.

Im from New England and we hardly get 2 footers so id be happy with either. But I love the bigger waves so it would be a lot more fun in the big stuff... and if people drop in (which they do a lot up here when it gets big) then you surf right behind or in front of him and dont worry about it, (share the wave if its possible).

Both, I'd go out in almost anything to be honest. It's good practise and keeps you that bit fitter for when the decent swells arrive.

(plus it's just great to be out there)

i would go both. i would prefer a 6ft day though cause i ride a board that is the same height as me. it is more fun on big waves. and there are no beginners to say......run into you and ding up your board.

i changed my mind to both. this summer i surfed big (3-4 feet with bigger sets when i went in, and getting bigger, and i was the only girl, and the only under 20 or something in a lineup of not very many people at all) and when i got out it was completely blown out and you couldnt get out again if you tried, scerry. i only rode one, caught 2 and bailed on the 1st one got trashed. but the one i caught was incredible. and i caught another big one which was like shoulder/neck high on me. and it was so cool. so yes. i think both because there were some great smaller days too.

while reading this and thinking 3-4 isnt nearly head high the stupid kook etc, bear in mind i am quite short.
