I wasn't going to bother posting any I'd seen, but I got a new one today that made me laugh...

Dear Friend,
I am a Captain of the US Marine Corps on Monitoring and Peace –keeping mission in Baghdad-Iraq. The reason why I’m explaining my finding to you is to seek for your assistance to enable you contributes immensely to the actualization of my dreams.

On the 27th day of January 2007, we were alerted on the presence of some terrorist’s hideouts in Haifa Street, a long thoroughfare of high-rise buildings built by Saddam Hussein here in Baghdad.
After Immediate intervention by the Iraqi forces and ours, we were able to capture many foreign Arab fighters linked to al Qaeda in that operation and over 100 militants were killed on the process. Among the Arab fighters linked to al Qaeda two were interrogated by two of our intelligent investigators and I. They confessed that some of them are fighters for al Qaeda and some are for Ayman al-Zawahiri and they took us to some of their hideout which runs along the west bank of the Tigris River that cuts through the capital.

When we invaded into the hideout, we recovered several guns, amour including some boxes among which two contains bullets, one filled with hard drugs (heroine) and the other two to my amazement contain some US Dollars which we assumed amounted to $23.2M after I and two of the intelligent investigators counted them and it took us over 2 hours to get it counted.

I however instructed them to keep this in high secrecy so that we can have the money to our selves, they all agreed to the plan and they replied to me on how I can get this huge sum out of this country and I told them that it’s no problem. This motivated me to connive with my best friend in our force who went with me and the two other officers to keep the boxes in a safer place.
I am now in keen need of a “Reliable and Trustworthy” person like you who would receive, secure and protect these boxes containing the US Dollars for me up on till my assignment elapses here.

I assure and promise to give you 10% of this fund, however feel free to negotiate what you wish to have as your percentage in this deal.
Please assure me of your keeping this topmost secret to protect my job with the US Monitoring and Peace-Keeping mission. Contact me through my personal email:
***********@hotmail.com
My Sincere regards,
Captain.

Because ofcourse, a captain in the US marines corp would contact a complete stranger over hotmail, with a top secret mission   What really made me laugh was the way he signed himself off as 'Captain.' It's like some sort of hero. "They call me.... Captain..."

  so it took them over 2 hours to count, and then they still had to assume the final sum? Yup, that's "Intelligence" for ya!

:edit: and I've just re-read it properly  , they're not even Intelligence investigators, but Intelligent investigators. Or so they say!

Stupid scammers (mostly).

"I didn't enter any lottery in the UK".
"If this email is really from a bank why is the reply-to a yahoo email address?"
"Never heard of an American solicitors based in India."
"Strange, never seen an offical letter from a solicitor with that many typos and grammatical errors."
"Banks don't send official and legal requests by email."
etc etc etc

Dumb, dumb, stupid scammers :)

I mean, does anyone *really* fall for that shyte?

I find it hard to believe that people will fall for scams like these - but it is all too clear that they do - why do you find these emails in your inbox regularly.

I have no sympathy with people who are attracted to some of these scams out of their own greed. Being caught out by a phishing email because you are not web savvy is perhaps more forgivable.

There was an old dear onNZTV a few weeka ago that'd send $100k's to some nigerians. Aparently had met a 'lawyer' who lived there and had 'employed' him to help them.

Even though the presenter made it clear it was all a scam she said she'd continue to send money to the lawyer to be able to claim her money...

And her family said they were 100% behind her.

Very sad.
