I've just had a wicked time in cornwall. I surfed at perranporth, towan, tolcarne, fistral, watergate bay, sennen cove... pretty much most of the main places actually. I bought a longboard (9'1, ocean magic) to save my bad shoulder from paddling too much. It's the best thing since sliced bread :D

very different to my little 7'2 (seems very small now!) I will never again complain about lugging my 7'2 on a 10min walk to the beach. It now seems as light as a feather! I can just about carry my 9'1 on it's side if it's right at the beach, but I discovered it's just too heavy and wide to carry any distance from most car parks. I bought a shoulder strap for £8. I must admit I did get some weird looks but I didn't care... it means I can now carry my longboard anywhere (after all, it's nearly twice my height!)

It's such a different ride. I spent the first day nosediving, as I thought I'd need to be further forward, but after about 4hours of spectacular wipeouts I got the hang of it. The waves went quite flat midweek, but they were still rideable with my longboard and sennen cove was ok.

Last Saturday was PERFECT. If I could have pre-programmed the waves and weather to exactly how I wanted it, that would have been spot on. I went to watergate bay (site of two *minor* little incidents) to overcome my fear of the place. It was fantastic! The waves were clean and glassy, most about 3/4ft, the sun was shining, it was really warm and there was a very gentle off shore breeze.

I got out back and caught pretty much EVERY wave I went for... not only that but I was now riding green waves (big achievement for me!) and standing up no problem. I surfed for about 5hours with a quick break to apply sun lotion (managed to burn anyhow  )

I would have surfed longer but I had a bad wipeout. I don't know what happened but the board flew way up in the air. I put my hands over my head, knowing it was crashing down over me. The large fin managed to land right on the side of my head (where my hands weren't!). It knocked me for six  Apparently I was stumbling around for a bit. I honestly thought my head had been split in two and I didn't dare move my hand away incase my head fell apart

This guy I was with, Steve, helped me out of the water and I lay down on the sand while he had a look. The lifeguards came over and I felt like such an idiot. What was worse was while I was lying there clutching my head seeing stars, I heard this surprised "I remember you" remark. One of the lifeguards was the same guy who dealt with me the time I wrecked my shoulder!

Anyway, after a few icepacks I felt a whole lot better. Despite that bump on the head and nice red/blue patch and fin line on the side of my face, that day was the most perfect day I've EVER had surfing. The day after, the waves were all messy and blown out and I hardly caught a thing. I felt like I was back at square one again... but I'll just forget about that for now!

I took this photo at the beach and thought it was cute so I'll upload it for you!

Just had a brilliant weekend at Saunton. Some lovely surf, weather was beautiful saturday, bit misty and cold sunday but that was fine as the surf was amazing.

To quote Chris Fixxy, I'm now tired, sunburned and broke, but I've got a big :D on my face.

Well, had a great weekend. Went down late saturday night to freshwater west, and slept in the back of a van with a mate.... no homoeroticism there I'm afraid, apart from when I was touched (by touched, I mean punched in the leg for snoring too loudly).

Anyway, it was worth it, when at 5.50am we sprinted over the dunes to see WAVES!! Yes, waves I tell thee!! I borrowed my friends 6"8 shortboard, and was able to finally duckdive!! Made me realise I really could do with a new board, as I doubt I would have made it out back with my 7"2 NSP. Anyway, we had the place to ourself for an hour, catching head high waves, with occasional overhead sets that caught me off guard a couple of times. It wasn't the best surf ever, and it seemed difficult to catch anything... don't know why, whether it was riding a new shorter board, but the waves just didn't seem to pick me up that often :?

This wasn't helped by a shifting channel: The wave would break to our left, then fade to nothing as it passed us, before jacking up again on our right. So, we'd paddle furiously over to where the wave had broke last time, to find that the channel had shifted yet again... got quite annoying, but still, it was great to get back out in the water, in propper waves.

A great experience all in all. All the time we were out, we only saw one other surfer. And it's the first time I've ever slept by the sea... going to sleep listening to waves breaking was a fantastic feeling. :D

Anotehr sweet few days from me too...

Jumped in at Connies after work got stuck behnd some utter numpty driving under 40 all the way from bodmin. Gah!
Anyway by the time i got there connies was about 3ft or so fairly clean with a dwindling crowd. Good to get wet after buring rodedendron all day.

Left for N.Devon that evening and hooked up with some friends at Torrenton to get wasted. Up early Sat to hit a semi hush NW Devon reef. What a fantastic day! sooooo warm and the reef was pushing a solid 4-5ft long rides but not quite chucking over. Had it all to meself for about 45mins as well!

Then out for lunch and over to a rammed croyde for a avo/eve surf with some other mates... Still managed to own all the kooks who where everywhere and pick off some crackers in the dwindling swell untill the wind changed and it started to chop up.

Wasted again that night

Sunday - Went to westward Ho reefs... wasn't really working and I felt like xxxxx plus it was stupidly misty. so saked th4e day off and drove home to meet the rents who where visiting the estate.

Finally jumped in at Leven lastnight (monday) with just me and Phil out and I surfed alone till about 8:15. 2-3ft hollow as per usual

Oh yeah and I spent all weekend with the van sounding like a absolute BEAST! as the manafold had blown a hole

Back from a dawny, well almost, at Cayton.

Shoulder/Head High clean fast and hollow.

Nice waves scored by me and Sdude. Another Sheff surfer who came up with us got a cover up, before he got out early as he had forgotton his gloves and hood.

Wow! Just got back from my first ever weeks surfing. What fun! But boy do i ache!

There are some pics of the three of us arsing about if anyone fancies a look. Not really surfing pics as i was in the water then. Some are a little xxxxx as i was playing with the SLR camera a bit. Anyway, click here if you fancy a look.

http://picasaweb.google.com/sooperhands/SurfTripApril07

The week started last Saturday and Sunday at Fistral. I'll be honest that was a battering, too many waves coming too fast and breaking too high up the beach. I smacked my head on the floor once and Ash hurt his back too.

Monday we went to Watergate and caught some nice waves. Only a couple of foot but nice and easy for a newbie to read and get on. Just what i needed on my new board.

Tues, weds and thurs we went up to Polzeath. This is both mine and Ashs fav beach. We both started off surfing hear. It was so clean on each day and when the sets came in they were puching 4 foot. Brilliant few days.

Headed home after a we realised there was no surf at the local beaches (harlyn & constantine) on friday but not before a final lunch in the sun and a ploughmans. Oh, and i've not even mentioned how great the weather was! Perfect week!!
