Hello!

My mate RJD pointed me over here. I'm from Shoreham on the South Coast of England, but been living in New Zealand for a few years now. Been surfing since leg warmers were fashionable, and riding a longboard since the hair disappeared, and the beer gut took over.

I snowboard a lot in the winter too, because it's too dangerous on the beaches here with polar bears and icebergs and stuff like that :wink:

Surely in NZ you're able to find a warm place to surf over winter?! :wink:

I hear theres people in the UK who surf over winter!

Either way, with other interests like snowboarding you'll fit in well on here.

Seriously, there's 8 really good ski fields within 1- 2 hours of christchurch, and it's cheap as for a season pass, so we just go boarding loads in the winter, and so usually too knackered from boarding to surf. It does get damn cold here compared to the UK when the southerlies come through.

Cool! Small world. It's a nice place, but gotta say I prefer living in NZ. I keep in touch with a few of my mates there still. Sounds like they had some OK waves last winter.

My folks are still there too. I grew up three houses up from the harbour, learnt to surf there. Don't miss the brown water much though.

I might head back for a visit one of these days, especially because most of the South Pacific is a free stopover on the way :wink:

A pint of proper English beer at the Marlipins would be very nice as well.

The marlipins, oh aye. I used to drink in the Pilot in southwick, until someone stabbed up a gypsy...and the Duke, which has turned into a real ale pub...sells nothing else...I swear you have to have a full on beard to get in there now.
