Any one know much about body building...?

Postby jennie » Wed Apr 11, 2007 10:08 am

Dont worry guys im not planning to become a body builder...my guns are big enough as it is!

Na i have just started seeing this guy who is seems pretty into it, he does weights and goes to the gym almost everyday, which seems a pretty healthy thing to do. But he has just started his 2nd cutting cycle (where you get rid of all body fat so muscles show up alot better) and some of the things he is doing and taking cant be good for him....

Does anyone here know much about it....cant help but think some of the methods to drop all body fat are a bit extreme and unsustainable.

(ps....girls im not complaining, he is buff as!)

Thats actually pretty normal behavior for body builders.

I've never been into it (far from it) but a couple of my friends do/have. They would often go through phases of fattening up before then working out extra to change it to muscle

I dont know the ins and outs but basically i think its easier to turn fat into muscle than just build a muscle thats already there.

Meh!

I go to the gym 3 mornings aweek and swim 3 times a week.
As long as he has a healthy diet , he should be ok.

It all depends on what he is taking,

But its up to him, if he has done it for a while he will know the dangers ( I Hope )

Hmm, you are very right! I'm surprised but you are... jsut looked it up:

"It's a common misconception that you can change fat into muscle. In truth you can't change fat into muscle (or vice versa) anymore than you can change lead into gold. Adipose tissue is composed of spherical cells that are specifically designed to store fat; muscle tissue consists of special contractile proteins that allow for movement to occur. So, based upon these facts, your muscles don't convert into fat during periods of extended inactivity because fat and muscle are two different and distinct types of biological tissue. And your fat doesn't change into muscle from rigorous exercise for the same reason. Your muscles atrophy (or get smaller) from prolonged disuse; your muscles hypertrophy (or get larger) from physical activity."

He is taking ALL of the following...

Whey
Creatine
Multi V
Milk Thistle
Flax Oil
Protien shakes
Formadrol

I dunno it just seems all a bit excessive...just wondering if anyone knew anything about these products.

Sort of.

If you reduce energy intake and up energy output with resistance training you are making demands of your body that cause muscle mass to increase. But you have reduced energy intake so the body needs energy. Where does it get it from? It draws on it's reserves - fat reserves.

Now, if you eat like a pig and do muscle building you'll keep your fat and build muscles underneath.

At least, that's been my understanding for quite some time now.

Just my 2c -- hope you don't get change from it ;)

one "technique" they use is not drinking any water 24 hours before competition, this unhealthy behavior dehydrates them and allows the muscle to stick out more, along with there stupid extreem diet that does not allow them to eat fat, months before competion. when they have drug free competition that only means that they have stopped using drugs a couple months before competition, when they are out of their system. having 50lbs. of bulk is just as bad as having 50 lbs of fat! it is a strain on the heart.
these bulky guys can't surf, can't run, can't do a lot of things...

I've never heard of Formadrol, but the rest are safe (well Creatine can be a bit hard on your liver if you do the loading phase as prescribed)

Whey is protein btw.

I use Creatine myself on occasion, and drink protein shakes, it's all pretty harmless.

Well Creatine is a stupid supplement to take.....How it works is to divert water from those lovley little things I like to call "essential organs" to your muscles.....Makes them big fast.....You stop taking Creatine and you loose it all just as fast. Creatine is hard on your liver, as well as the fact that the whole water diversion thing....makes your risk of heat related injuries far more prevelent.

Whey is ONE kind of protein. It is most effective if used as a recovery tool. You will recover faster and better. No harm here.

Milk Thistle? The only thing I could find on it is a argued effect on liver function. It is supposed to improve it, but the studies are not considered to be accurate.

Formadrol apparently ups your testosterone level while shutting off your bodies ability to produce estrogen......Well I just dont like things that screw with my bodies natural functions.

Flax Oil is super safe.....it is well knowen to have good bennifits, and was even recomended to me by my Coach who has a degree in Nutrition.

I assume Multi V, is a Multi Vitamin.....nothin really wrong here, that is just for general health...

Overal, people who are huge.....like Arnold huge, are pretty unhealthy people. I dont care if you can benchpress a car, you are still just at risk of coronary disease's as a guy that weighs as much as a car......Not to mention i think that people that are huge are pretty ugly.....

Take this as you want. I am just the youngin(23) that has been a competitive athelete for the better part of 2 decades(started when I was 7). I have little training in stuff like this. Just a 3 week course on nutrition for atheletes given to me by the army, and all the stuff I have sorta picked up from my coaches over the years.
