Local stores to buy a board from in the Santa Monica area.

Postby zporkz » Fri Mar 30, 2007 11:28 pm

So I've been surfing once a week for about a year now, and I've decided to get my first board (a 7'6" if it makes a difference).

I was hoping some of you guys could recommend a place to buy a board from. A friend of mine is recommending a Spyder from the guys in Hermosa, but I'm curious what you guys think I should get. I'm not too concerned about getting something from a local shaper versus a name brand surfer.

Now, I realize every brand has it's own strengths and weaknesses and it also depends on the conditions you ride, but all that aside, do you guys have any suggestions?

Just get something that floats you good, you can paddle on easilly and feels comfortable. At your experience level, you should do fine.

There is Horizon surfshop but don't go in there the owner is a complete a-hole, zj's boardin house is def a chill spot but there boards are on the more expensive side, try surfboardshack.com and look under local california boards

socal, v funny on the insight about horizon. haven't been in there for a while. but yes, agree with zj's - pretty cool there, but a little on the pricey side.

zpork, i would recommend spyder any day of the week. i personally owned 3, well, i still own two. one is a 6.5 by dennis jarvis, the other is a 6.2 by ian wright. sold a jarvis a while back. they'll have a healthy selection of fishes and mini mals since you're just learning. good luck.
